The Great Australasian Beer Fest (May 11-13 2012) in Melbourne saw 60 Australian & New Zealand Craft Brewers commissioned to produce a special festival beer never previously produced by the breweries before. Doctor’s Orders festival beer is Plasma which continues on from where “Iron Lung” left off (everything is better with more hops).
Plasma a White IPA is yet another emerging trend that we’re happy to embrace and present a Doctor’s Orders Brewing twist on.
Judicious hop use dominates Plasma’s aroma, backed up with a balanced mouth feel defying its alcoholic payload before delivering an extremely long lingering enjoyable bitterness. A deceivingly addictive prescription

Hazy gold beer, good pale cream colour head. Palate is airy and dry. Sweetish malts, fair bit of milky sweetness. Mild spice. Well buried citrus and a trace of pine. Light semi dry finish. Far too milky sweet and the hops are pretty apologetic. Are there no better beers from Australia to import? Who decided this was a good one? Most puzzling!

Bottle from Cork & Cask. Hazy golden body with a thick off-white head. Prosecco-like carbonation. Good lacing. Aroma of lemon, pithy orange, peach and herbs. Flavour of peanuts, grapefruit, melon and lemon cake. Medium body with an oily texture. Lively fizz. Raw, hoppy and refreshing.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines; clear golden yellow pour with a big frothy white head, aroma has sharp lemon and a mixture of herbal action, very odd, taste has light grain, a hint of yeast, some citrus action, grapefruit bite, a bit all over the place, lacks refinement.

Keg at Mother Kelly’s - London. Pours clear yellow with a foamy, white head. Not the most inspiring aroma, some spicy pine, maybe a little butyric acid, pale grains. Light to medium sweet flavor with floral hops, bile indicative of butyric acid, alcohol, lemon, tangerine, pine needles. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish with grassy bitterness, a bit of baby puke, ripe lemon, spruce. Sub par.
