One of Michael Jackson’s 500 Classic Brews. Carnegie Porter was brewed for the first time in 1836 and tastes the same today as it did then. Carnegie Porter has a creamy head with a scent of coffee. Its sweet and well rounded flavor is balanced by the bitterness of the hops. Storage helps the flavor mature and enhances its harmony.

Bottle picked up in Sweden, after having the excellent Synebrychoff Koff Porter I was expecting more from this. The color was pitch black but the body was a tad light. The flavor was solid but not as impressive as some other baltic porters I had during my 2013 trip around the Baltic. A good cheap(for Sweden) porter but nothing jaw-dropping.

330 ml bottle. Translucent cola brown color. Thick rocky tan head with clinging lace. Smoky roasted malt nose has hints of cocoa and floral hops. Sweet toasted malt flavor is subtle and smooth. Notes of cocoa and coffee with complex spicy hops. A touch of licorice in mid taste. Dryish finish. I find that the depth of flavor improves as the brew warms. Very well made. A world class porter.

Bottle labeled just 'porter' but 5.5%. Black with nice but fast disappearing beige head. Liquorice, some dry cocoa, lots of malts and some faint herbs. Some apple and berries. Medium bodied. Ok porter but nothing exceptional for me.

11.2 fl. oz. bottle. Pours a dark brown with a small, light brown head. Sweet aroma of dark fruit, roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate. Sweet flavour of dried fruit, roasted malt, liquorice, dark chocolate, coffee and a hint of smoke with a dry, mildly bitter finish. Full body with a smooth, oily texture and flat carbonation. Very nice porter.

Very classic, if not archetypical, Baltic porter since 1836, claiming to still have the same taste as back then. Loose, creamy white head, colour as good as black with faint reddish hue. Nose gets coffee powder, bitter chocolate, iron, liquorice, black pepper, soy sauce and raisins. Roasted bitter taste, slick maltiness, lots of liquorice, bit resinous and oily, iron but not in a dull metallic way as with many lagers, finishing in roasted bitterness. Tasteful and hard to ignore classic.

Bottle tasted on 21/06/2014. Opaque black colour with a small beige head. Aroma is roasted malts, brown sugar and bread. Taste is sweet, watery, smooth and a little chocolate. Hoppy finish. The problem with this one is the watery palate. Next one please!
