Bold & rich, this enveloping quad builds its force and character through interlacing layers of flavor. Its deep complexity begins with a molasses sweetness with notes of dark fruits like raisins and figs but develops further with an undercurrent of tart spice from its distinctive Belgian yeast for a truly transfixing brew.

750 ml corked and caged bottle. Aroma consists of cinnamon, dough, dark fruits, dust, cola. Pours a clear deep copper with a long-sustaining thick beige head. Taste is lightly sweet and savory, finishing dry and bitter; alcoholic. Flavors of clove, dark fruit. Foamy mouthfeel, medium body. Pretty good.

On tap @ Avery Sour Fest 2014. Pours an orangish brown appearance with a light tan head. Grape / plum, caramel / toffee, candy sugar aroma. Some light smoke in the flavor with burnt sugar, toffee, and dark fruit / plum / figs. Drinks pretty fine and actually better than a lot of the other garbage at Sour Fest.

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with hints of ruby, violet and crimson all with a thick, three centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of rich pit fruits, some light smoked grain and a bit of belgian yeast, quite strong. Medium to Full-bodied; Dense pit fruit and stone fruit sweetness in the initial flavour with raisins, figs, prunes and plums all noticeable and a lot of malt throughout with some subdued spiciness and a lot of deep peppery notes from the yeast on the finish. Aftertaste shows a more refined sweetness with the sugars and spices playing out and ending very well, yet still complex. Overall, a surprisingly complex and sweet beer with a great profile and a nice finish. Great to sample and well worth finding to try if you can grab it! I sampled this 75 cl (sam adams style) bottle purchased from Costco in Pentagon City (Arlington), Virginia on 02-January-2014 for US$22/3 pack sampled at home here in Washington on 01-June-2014 - thanks Dad for the 3 pack!

750 c&c from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours deep ruddy and dark with a creamy beige head. Aroma of mixed dark fruits and berries over treacle. Med + body. Fizzy carb. Flavor is treacle with dark fruits and black berries. It seems spicy in a moderate way, and may even have a touch of chocolate. Quite delicious.

Reviewed from notes.
The appearance has a dark red close to brown colored body with a thin cap of a white foamy head that dies at a nice pace into the body. Lacing is sporadic and tries to cling, but doesn’t and slides at a decent pace.
The smell has some raisin, fig, plum, pear, spiced apple combine through a toasty sort of molasses and some Belgian candied sugariness. There is also a decent earthy spiciness comes into play as well.
The taste is sweet and somewhat spicy through the previously mentioned flavors. There is a nice Belgian yeasty/earthy/spicy yet sweet aftertaste takes hold and guides to a dry finish.
On the palate, she sits about a medium to heavy on the body, not sessionable - more of a sipper. Carbonation is somewhat smooth for the style and is pretty good to me. The alcohol is extremely well hidden.
Overall, this is a good Quad that I would have again, and I could see this one being picked up for my Easter dinner this year.
