American style IPA by To Öl using Warrior, Simcoe and Centennial; brewed at Belgium’s Proef, like so many other To Öl beers. Very thick and frothy, ’papery’ lacing, moussy, rocky, egg-white and clearly hops-enhanced head over a hazy peach-orange beer with ochre hue and lively sparkling. Delicately fragrant nose of lime juice and lime zest, mandarin, spruce resin, passion fruit, sweet onion (the Simcoe?), lemon-flavored soap, light musky accent (again, probably the Simcoe), kiwi berry, hints of pineapple, soggy white bread, dandelions, moldy orange peel, rosemary, caramel, minerals, soaking wet cardboard. Crisp, lively onset, sourish fruitiness with sweetish touch, impressions of passion fruit, unripe green plum and raw pineapple, fine-tuned and lightly minerally carbonation, supple and slick body formed by smooth, somewhat grainy and very lightly caramelly malts timidly hinting at sweetness just as they are being overwhelmed by a wave of spicy, pungent, resinous, tonic-water- and strongly yellow grapefruit-like hop bitterness, drying the back of the mouth almost entirely but allowing just a trace of malt juiciness through, while some of the delicate lime and spruce aromas return retronasally, filling the nose with unmistakably New World hoppy fragrance. The resinous, utterly spicy bitterness is uncompromising, a bit harsh even, unsurprisingly when a potent bittering hop like Warrior is used to this extent, but it sharpens the appetite in a most efficient way and leaves one mouth watering after taking the last sip. Long-lasting peppery bitterness remains, with a light salty edge to it. One for the more advanced hophead I suppose, putting more emphasis on far-reaching hop bitterness than on sweet fruit aromas or biscuity maltiness. I can handle that, but I can imagine this may be a tad too harsh for some. In any case, I enjoyed this one a lot.

A hazed golden amber ipa with a thick frothy lacing light mocha head. In aroma, nice biscuit malt with loads of of pungent floral hops, light sulfur notes, mercaptoethanol, cat pee, interesting but pleasant. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity biscuit malt with loads of resinous pungent floral hops, tropical fruit, light treacle, very nice for a 2 year old beer.

330mml bottle tasted on the 27/04/2016. Cloudy orange color with a big white head. Aroma of pine, caramel and some hops. Taste has malts and caramel balanced with fruity hop notes and grapefruit bitterness. Aftertaste is nice. Next one please!

Nagy, nagyon tartós hab, átlátszatlan sötét borostyán szín. Intenzív, citrusos, déligyümölcsös, gyantás illatvilág. Íze komlós, keserű, gyantás, citrusos, déligyümölcsös. Száraz, testes sör, hosszú keserű utóízzel.

Bottle. Hazy orange body with a thick off-white head. Good lacing. Aroma of pithy orange, honey and candle wax. Flavour of lime chutney, grapefruit and bread. Medium to full body with a frothy texture. Light fizz. A solid IPA.

Botella. @El Cabanón, Avilés 21/10/2015 Color amarillo, aromas y sabores frutales, final amargo.

Keg at Mikkeller and Friends, RBESG ’15 day 3, 22/08/15. Very lightly hazed golden orange with a decent off white covering. Nose is light pine needle, orange pith, straw, melon. Taste comprises tangerine, bread dough, citric pith, straw, lemon zest, melon. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with restrained hop bitterness. Ok - seems a little subdued compared to To Oi’s usual standards.

330ml bottle from Brewdog.com (I think). Pours hazy amber. Decent sharp floral citrus and moderate pine. Very good to-the-point bitter hop IPA.
