Have you read the description for the regular Crooked Tree yet? Well this beer is almost the same just double the flavor and alcohol. We actually took the Crooked Tree recipe and doubled all of the ingredients except the water, just the way a DOUBLE should be made. Big hops balanced with tons of malt give this beer a huge body. Although this beer is as cool as "The Fonz" when first purchased, it gets really mellow and smooth with some age. After a year or two stored in a cool dark place you'll notice the heavy caramel and malt flavors are trying to sneak past the hops. This beer is hugely delicious so it will need your undivided attention (the chores can wait....trust us).

355ml bottle. Hazy amber colour with average, creamy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Resinous, piney and citrusy hop aroma, caramel malty background. Taste is intensely malty, resinous, sweaty, hints of purulence, almond, bitter hoppy overtones; full body, some warming alcohol. OK, strong and heavy - but there’s no proportionality of quality and quantity. In this case I’d even say, it’s simply too much and therefore a loss of quality.

Bottle at Sander’s in NYC. Pours clear, copper-gold with a lasting, frothy off-white head. The aroma has lots of dry pine, toasty brown bread, hints of caramel and ripe fruits. Medium to heavy sweet flavor with definite alcohol kick, some dusty pine, bread, dry orange, grapefruit, earth, dirty leaves. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warm finish, somewhat resinous, with more pine, dry caramel, alcohol, bread, orange, earth. A bit heavy handed overall.

Aroma is sweet with caramel, vanilla, American hops, biscuits, gluey notes and exotic fruits. Flavour has gluey notes, exotic fruits, woody notes, some biscuits and caramel. Also distant grassy notes. Too sweet and too much glue here. Not bad still — and hides the alcohol rather well.

Bottle shared at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Murky orange-amber. Aroma of stale hops, honey-ish malt and a bit of alcohol. Sweetish malty flavor with a bit of caramel, honey hints, and a bitter finish with old hops. Medium-bodied. Too old.

The Irish Pol, Philly tap: Pours a brown color with a small head. Aroma is caramel malt, fruitiness, bit of old hoppity hops, and no booze. Taste is sweet, but pleasantly mellow. No alcohol in the taste. Smooth as hell. Hoppiness is subdued and minimal. Dangerzone.

Bottle @ Home, Courtesy of Jeff, Thanks! Pours slightly hazy dark orange with a creamy offwhite head. Aroma of malt, caramel, light biscuit, rich fruity hops, peach, grass, pine. Flavor is malt, some caramel, fruity hops, peach, graefruit, piney, resinly hops. Medium body, soft carbonation, notes of alcohol is there, but well hidden for the ABV. 250513
