Have you read the description for the regular Crooked Tree yet? Well this beer is almost the same just double the flavor and alcohol. We actually took the Crooked Tree recipe and doubled all of the ingredients except the water, just the way a DOUBLE should be made. Big hops balanced with tons of malt give this beer a huge body. Although this beer is as cool as "The Fonz" when first purchased, it gets really mellow and smooth with some age. After a year or two stored in a cool dark place you'll notice the heavy caramel and malt flavors are trying to sneak past the hops. This beer is hugely delicious so it will need your undivided attention (the chores can wait....trust us).

355ml bottle from Ølbutikken

Pours clear dark orange with a small bubbly head. Aroma of fresh hops, caramely malts, fruits, lemon and citrus. Taste is quite fruity and hoppy with loads of malts, citrus, lemon and warming alcohol. Finish is hoppy and fruity with some sweet malty notes. Quite tasty and hoppy DIPA with a massive malty backbone.

Pours cloudy, amber-orange with a short, tan head. Aroma is orange malt. Taste is sweet caramel and an almost medicinal alcohol bitter....sort of a menthol-cool in there. Surprisingly subtle for the high ABV.

bottle. very kick butt imperial IPA. For 12%, this is incredibly smooth and drinkable. Some real craft went into this - really like it.

Bottled. Hazy amber to copper color, loads of tiny debris, short frothy off-white head. Aroma is what I expected: loads of malt, bit caramel, raisin, piney hops, grapefruit, citrus, bit grassy, aspirin, bready. Lots of malt in taste, big bitterness in the back, citrussy fruit. Medium alcohol burn in the finish. More of a barley wine than a DIPA, but the difference can be very small ofcourse.

Bottle thanks to Champ. Pours a hazey copper with small paperthin white head. The aroma is citrus hop and pine. Medium mouthfeel with bitter hop and grapefruit with lingering bitter finish. Hides alcohol well, a very good IIPA from Dark Horse.

Bottle. Sweet caramel malt, sweet orange, orange peel aroma. Viscous cloudy burnt orange with a small ivory head. Syrupy sweet caramel, range, piney hops, and alcohol flavor. Full body, soft carbonation.

Bottle from The Bottle Shop, Canterbury. Hazy deep reddish brown with some floaters. very thin head. Strong toffee aroma. Some hop. It’s sweet syrupy and hoppy, alcohol comes through later but not as a warmth. Just not a very subtle double ipa. Too sweet too much toffee. OK hop on finish. Bit boozy. Gets you drunk but not a great beer.

12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 2/19/2013. Pours lightly hazy reddish orange color with a 1 finger dense cream colored with with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Good spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass. Aromas of huge grapefruit, orange zest, orange rind, pineapple, caramel, pine, floral, grass, and floral earthiness; some slight alcohol as it warms. Fantastic aromas with great balance and complexity of hop notes; with great balance of malt that is not overdone at all. Taste of grapefruit, orange zest, pine, caramel, pineapple, orange rind, floral, grass, and floral earthiness. Fair amount of citrus and pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, citrus zest, pineapple, pine, caramel, floral, grass, and floral earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice balance and complexity of hop and malt flavors; with a near perfect balance of malt/bitterness; and zero cloying sweetness present after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a creamy, slightly slick, and sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with only a small warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a highly excellent and huge DIPA! Great balance and complexity of hop flavors with malt; and dangerously smooth to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering.
