Have you read the description for the regular Crooked Tree yet? Well this beer is almost the same just double the flavor and alcohol. We actually took the Crooked Tree recipe and doubled all of the ingredients except the water, just the way a DOUBLE should be made. Big hops balanced with tons of malt give this beer a huge body. Although this beer is as cool as "The Fonz" when first purchased, it gets really mellow and smooth with some age. After a year or two stored in a cool dark place you'll notice the heavy caramel and malt flavors are trying to sneak past the hops. This beer is hugely delicious so it will need your undivided attention (the chores can wait....trust us).

Bottle says IPA and then says "ages well" Iβm not sure which one is which? Identity crisis? half a point off for lying! Well, brewer knows best and this bottle doesnβt have any indication on when it was brewed. Fantome tulip, cellar temp. Burgundy with a finger head. Nose is very piney, malty and resinous. Taste is exactly like it smells. Guess it could pass for a barleywine. Too malty for me.

Bottle from The Bottle Shop; dirty murky amber pour with tiny off white head, massive tropical hop aroma, big tropical hop flavour mango quite bitter, real thick mouthfeel you could almost chew it, well balanced with malt backbone, stupidly drinkable for 13%+. Real like this.

Keg at Euston Tap, London. A hazy orange/amber coloured pour with a medium off white head on top. Hoppy, fruity, pine aroma. Tastes hoppy, quite sweet, fruity, pine, malty and some caramel. Complex and very tasty indeed.

Draft. This beer is great. Loads of herbal and pine hops with a huge caramel malt base. Unfortunately, I had this one on draft and regular crooked tree via bottle. I want to try them both side-by-side.

On tap at Beer Temple. Slightly hazy orange amber colour, white head. Aroma is quite sweet, toffee, caramel, fruity hops, light alcohol, pine, a bit like an American barley wine. Flavour is sweet, caramel, fruity hops, a little soap, floral, firm bitter hoppy finish with some green tea. Medium to full-bodied. Nice, albeit quite sweet.

355 ml bottle courtesy if Ekstedt. Pours clear deep golden with a rather small frothy offwhite head that leaves some sticky trace and lacing on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet, malty and tiny hoppy with white bread, slightly dry grass, grapefruit juice, cereal, powdered sugar, pine, resinous wood, dried apricots, pineapple and hints of golden syrup. Taste is sweet and very bitter with sweet white bread, pine, freshly cut grass, alcohol, pineapple, dried apricots, lemon balm, shampoo, cereal and white sugar, mouthfeel is round, oily bitter, astringent, boozy and medium bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with sweet white bread, pine, grass, resinous wood, pineapple, grapefruit rinds and hints of bergamot. Too boozy and a bit tired.Β

Medium, bit fluffy yellowish head over hazed red-amber beer. End of bottle releases some UFOβs. Grapey aromatic hops, but immediately joined with a mild, but present whiff of acetone/solvent. Thick aroma as from meat (esters?) βn mushroom sauce, mixed with hopoil. Bitter, bit metallic, quinine, but some fruitiness, and a hint at sweet caramel and maltsugars. Fast gone, reverting to the quinine-, even chlorehexidine-like bitterness, horsechestnut. Medium to well-bodied, slick, chewy, well-carbonated. Long, harsh bitterness remaining. Generally speaking - both rewarding AND unpleasant. Whenever you want to say: "yes, this is a good, regular DIPA", either the meaty aroma, or the exaggerated, near-chemical bitterness nips the thought in the bud.

(Bottle, Akkurat, Stockholm) Dark amber colour with brief, frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of dried fruit, resin, rubber and a touch of black-currant. Malty, fruity taste with dried fruit, apricots, resin, rum raisins, brown sugar, caramel and a vinous finish with a solid, resinous bitterness. Full body, fairly sweet, with quite some alcohol shining through. Not particularly balanced, but quite tasty and very nice.
