Keg at Brewdog Shep’s Bush. Attractive ruby red, mahogany brown coloured pour with a lasting beige head. Aroma is nutty chestnut, peppercorn, little earthy. Flavour is composed of earthy nutty grains, sweet vanilla, cocoa, hint of toasted coconut. Palate is semi sweet. Grainy, moderate carbonation, medium bodied. Interesting and pretty delicate beer.

Medium to heavy sweet flavor with moderate ashy roast, baking cocoa, some earth, rich dark fruits, some butterscotch. Full bodied with average carbonation. Somewhat dry on the finish with a bit of char, baking cocoa, more toffee, burnt custard. Solid.

Opaque dark brown beer, tidy pale tan head. Smooth palate, modest fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts bring a little dark chocolate. Sweet vanilla. Sorachi kicks in and provides a mild lemon and a little hop spice. Touch of tangy esters underneath. Light semi dry finish. Unusual and tasty.

Bottle at home, 27th February 16. Pours a thin black beer, slight head. Aroma is vanilla, cocoa, Sorachi hop. Taste is rich, but not overly sweet, the vanilla shines and the use of Sorachi in the porter, makes this different. Enjoyable

Keg at Small Bar, Brizzle. It pours darkest brown, pretty much black with a small, bubbly white head. The nose is cold red wine, rich roast, coffee cake, creamy, vanilla, custard, cherry, nutmeg and Bakewell pudding. The taste is bitter, rich roast, burnt pine, creaminess, Portuguese custard tart, light herbal, coffee, peppery spice, wood, alcohol boost and light medicinal notes with a lingering bitter - dry finish. Full body, low carbonation and oily mouth - feel. Custard definitely comes through. Good fun, but I wish it were more drinkable, perhaps more carbonation would help.

33cl bottle. Dark brown pour with a light tan head that gives way to a very thin lacing that sticks around for a long time. Smells of roasted malts, smoke, caramel and milk chocolate. Tastes bitter-sweet, with notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, dark chocolate, pine resin, roasted malts and caramel.
