A 12oz bottle from Chuck’s poured into an English Pint. Small amount of dark white head that dissipates quickly. Dark nut brown in color. Scent is very malty. Caramel and roasted nuts. Can’t smell much from the hops on this one. Something else is there too. Maybe raisins... Taste is light sweet and light bitter. I can taste coffee and some kind of funk on the aftertaste. Medium bodied with a creamy texture, overly fizzy carbonation and a slightly longer than average coffee finish. Overall, I’m not a huge fan of this beer. Maybe it’s because I was expecting a lot for for my first 3F experience or maybe I got a bad bottle. Something here just doesn’t measure up in my book for this to have such a high rating. Hopefully the 3F Arctic Panzer Wolf that I’m going to drink tomorrow will be better.

Pours a nice dark, coppery brown with a mid-sized, tan head. Nice roasted malt aroma and strong roast malt flavor, with some sweet chocolate and coffee in the background. Interesting.

Bat 17, Evanston, bottle: Pours a mahogany brown like color with a pretty well formed head. As the label promises, this beer is full of malts. The aroma is full of malts, but there are fruit notes, sugar notes, and perhaps some toffee. The flavor is pretty similar. And to be perfectly honest I don’t know Scottish Ales (that is not Scotch) all that well, so I don’t know how accurate this is to the style. Medium-full bodied with a good amount of non-cloying sweetness to it. For my first Three Floyds beer, I was not blown away, but I can’t say that I didn’t enjoy it.

355ml bottle from Brewdog Bar, Aberdeen. Pours cloud mahogany with ruby highlights and thin tan head which quickly dissipates. The carbonation is moderate and mouth-feel is smooth. The nose is caramel malt, plums, cherries, vanilla and wood. Taste; caramel, roasted malt, burnt sugar, wood, liquorice, nuts, tangy dark fruits, good bitterness and vanilla towards the end. It’s well balanced and very drinkable.

Pours a beautifully clear deep mahogany color with a huge bubbly off white head that sticks to the glass all the way down. Smells of caramelized malts, a bit of mineral, some apples, strange smells abound. Tastes of sweet malt, caramel and some alcohol. Mouthfeel is thick and sticky, full bodied with loads of carbonation. Sweet brew, even for the style I felt it to be too sticky and sweet. Very little if any hop presence here. Not the best FFF beer I’ve tried. 12/16/2011 Received in trade from phisigben, thanks for the opportunity. Pours a slightly cloudy deep reddish brown color with a thinnish white head that quickly dissipates to wisps on top with spotty lace on the way down. Smells mostly of caramelized sugars with hints of alcohol raisins and prunes. Sweet and malty with enough hops to keep it from cloying. Sweet dark and caramelized sugars mixed with some dark dried fruits with just enough hop and ethanol to keep it from cloying, Medium to thick body with a light to moderate level of carbonation and a sweet sticky bubbly mouthfeel. Wow this seems like a very different beer than the one I reviewed in 2008. I really enjoyed this beer this time, I guess the last time I tried this maybe I got one that was "off".

355ml bottle, trade with Craig, cheers. Ruby brown body. Fast fading, beige head. The smell brings nutty malts to the nose. Coffee-chocolate malts in flavour, hints of honeyed malts, too. Mellow hops on the swallow. Velvetly smooth textured (hotel room, 03.12.2010).

Bottle 12fl.oz. @ home.[ Trade by cgarvieuk ]. Clear medium to dark brown color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, chocolate, wood, tobacco notes. Flavor is moderate to light light heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Bottle at Block Party. Pours amber-brown with a moderate, off-white head. Sweet, malty aroma with dark fruits and bread. Flavor is even sweeter, with caramel, fruit and bready malt notes, along withs subtle bitterness. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Finishes sweet with some spices, fruity hops, and plenty of caramel malt. Great stuff.

Refrigerated bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a nice opaque medium brown with almost no head. Has almost no lacing and is lightly carbonated. Taste is malt (caramel, toffee, maple, and molasses). Pretty good beer, but not quite as good as I expected.
