Sampled at the 3 Floyds event at the Brickskeller. Pours a hazy, mahogany brown with very little beige head. Aroma is nice and malty, brown sugar, a little maple, sugary smelling. Flavor is sweet, light maple, light chocolate, brown sugar, tree bark. Has a pronounced malt flavor, just like wet grains. Full bodied and sweet on the finish. The components are all nice, but there’s a bit of a disconnect.

I drank this before I really got into Scottish ales, so this would probably rate better for me today. Some spruce, maple, brown sugars and molasses. Rated 8/13/02 Re rate thanks to Rando7. Pours dark brown. Nose of whiskey malts and oak, some molasses. Taste is dry molasses and oak. Re rate: 3.3 5/22/10

Robert the Bruce is a smooth Scottish Ale, it has a hint of sweetness, is robust and somewhat malty but not overwhelming. It’s red in color and smells good, supposedly it smells like malt, alcohol, and coffee, but all I’m smelling is pure greatness.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café Wallingatan, Stockholm) Dark brown colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, nose with notes of dried fruit, caramel and toasty malt. Malty taste with chocolate, dark bread, dried fruit, caramel and raisins. Medium body, slightly sweet. Balanced spicy bitterness. Solid and well made.

bottle pours dark brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is corn, rye, some brown sugar. Wow, this really hits you with rich sweet bready malts, light roast, and some candy sugar and pepper in the finish. This is good stuff, they knocked this style out of the park!

Draft @ Three Floyds, Munster, IN. Pours a dark amber color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty caramel aroma with some spicy hints. Roasted malty caramel flavor. Has a roasted malty caramel finish with some spicy hints in the aftertaste.

In a pint glass out of the bottle at a restaurant in Chicago. Pours a clear mahagony with a white head that does not linger. Aroma is mostly malt with currant, raisin and spice. I get some esters on the end. Well balanced. Mouthfeel is full and bready with some viscous nature to it. Full flavored malt taste with very little bitterness. Some cherry on the finish. Well constructed. I have only tried a few of the Three Floyds’ brews and this is my least favorite, but it is still a good offering.
