Omnipollo Maz (formerly Mazarin) is my take on a “thinker’s beer”. Rather than being big and undecipherably complex I wanted to create something that would calm a hop yearning nerve without fuddling the brain too much. In other words, a lavishly hopped ale of judicious ABV — an Extra Special Pale Ale if you will.
In fact, so extra special that it snatched a gold medal at the Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival in 2013.
In November 2014 we doubled the hop bill.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, best before 4/13/2019. Pours very hazy deep golden amber color with a 1 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, red apple, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, red apple, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, woody, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, red grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, mango, melon, red apple, guava, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, peppercorn, pine, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, and sticky/resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.6%. Overall this is an awesome hazy American pale ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical/earthy hops and moderate bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the modestly bitter/resinous/drying finish, not overly aggressive. Awesome Columbus, Amarillo, Chinook, Citra and Simcoe profile. Very juicy, vibrant, dank, and earthy balanced hop complexity; with a nice wheat/oat/malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness from lingering resin dryness. A really enjoyable offering, and well made style example.

(330ml bottle @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Mar 14 2015) Pours totally clouded dark gold with a moderate lingering white head and lace. Aroma of mango skin, mandarin, tart citrus juice, wet vegetation, light caramel sweetness. Flavour of white grapefruit, mandarin flesh, kind of tart, thin and citric. Softly bitter and softly sweet pale malt with a little biscuit and grain. Lightish but kind of creamy body with soft carb. Easy to drink but maybe not the freshest because the flavours don’t really pop. Still would try on tap if it shows up fresh at Omnipollos Hatt and reevaluate.
