Omnipollo Maz (formerly Mazarin) is my take on a “thinker’s beer”. Rather than being big and undecipherably complex I wanted to create something that would calm a hop yearning nerve without fuddling the brain too much. In other words, a lavishly hopped ale of judicious ABV — an Extra Special Pale Ale if you will.

In fact, so extra special that it snatched a gold medal at the Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival in 2013.

In November 2014 we doubled the hop bill.

A murky, light yellow beer, a head is almost medium and blond. Aroma is good and sophisticated, tropical fruits, lychee and sweet papaiyas, some grapefruits. Taste has strong grapefruits, some sweet and tropical fruitness. The bitterness is almost medium, but that’s enough. Almost medium bodied, fresh carbonation. The simple beer but succesfully. Tasteful.

Tap at Murphy’s Law. Opaque orange with offwhite head. Sweet malts, Orange juice and tangerine peel, oats, citrus hoppiness, light doughy yeast. Medium sweet, light bitter, light lemony zest. Medium body, average carbonation. Fruitjuice like texture, bit chalky as well. Nice and fruity finish. Borefts 2015, Day two. Tap. Lekker fruitig bittertje, mandarijntjes pellen. Yellow-white brew, similar to a witbier, with the same fine, white lacing. It smells of citrusy and piney, with some funkiness present, reminding me of bad cheese. The taste is quite pleasant, bitter, with citrus notes, hints of tropical fruits. Very light beer, making for a good sessionable drink. --- Beer merged from original tick of Maz on 20 Dec 2018 at 21:28 - Score: . Original review text: Soft herbal and tropical notes, moderately sweet, subtle belgian yeast, old hop varieties. Nice balance, smooth texture, sessionable. 3.8

Draught at Billie’s Bierkafetaria in Antwerp. Irregular but thick and frothy, stable, eggshell white head, cloudy peach blonde robe. Aroma has an enormous amount of fresh blood orange next to passion fruit, mango, lychee, canned apricot, tangelo, pine resin, vanilla cake, white bread dough, cereals, fruit yoghurt and slight ureum. Soft and fluffy in the mouth, tropical fruits abounding (mango, lychee, passion fruit, pineapple) with a lot of citrusy orange sweetness, soft carbo, biscuity malt sweetness, filling, velvety (oatmeal!) and smooth, ending in an unexpectedly soft hop bitterness, very aromatic and citrusy with spicy notes but not deeply bittering. Quite unusual for an IPA and not unpleasant, but could do with more actual hop bitterness in the aftertaste.

Hazy pale blond. Aroma has lots of pale malts and floral hop. Flavour also has this floral hoppy edge. Very soft, easy to drink feel.

Tap at Borefts. Hazy golden with fluffy white head. Resin, light lime peel, very herbal hops, touch of onion, dry oats, grassy. Light sweet and medium bitter in a nice herbal way. Under medium bodied with creamy feel. Decent stuff.
