Bottle at xmas tasting. Dark ruby, chocolate on the nose, liquorice, cloves, quite thin, sweet roasty chocolate, more spice in the taste as it warms.

500ml bottle form Appellation Wines Appearance - dark brown with a nicely proportioned fawn head. Nose - initially liquorice but then it becomes apparent that it is fennel. Some other cakey spices going on too. Perhaps a prunes in alcohol note. Taste - more Christmas pudding spices and bread and the fennel/liquorice returns. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a relatively fresh finish. Overall - a really good effort, Michael

500ml bottle form Appellation Wines, Dalry. Cheers Ash! Pours a dark brown with a decent tan head. Aromas are fennel and star anise upfront, dark sugars and clove following, finally dark fruit. Very enticing. Taste brings it all together with roasted malt and spice. Creamy texture, nice bitterness. A lovely winter beer.

Bottle from The Beerhive. Dark brown body with a medium beige head. Nice lacing. Aroma of black forest gateaux (thanks to @drinkmongered for that), Christmas pudding, rum and brambles. Flavour of ash, tangy berries, roasted malt and spice. Medium body with a slicky, creamy mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. A fantastic winter ale from a really promising brewery.
