This blend of spontaneously fermented beer is aged on local raspberries. We begin brewing Coolship Red with Pilsner malt, 40% raw wheat, and aged whole-leaf hops. The unfermented wort is then transferred to a large shallow pan called a coolship, which allows the hot wort to mingle with wild yeast and souring microbiota in the Maine air. After fermenting and aging in French oak wine barrels for over two years, we add raspberries and let it rest for an additional four to five months. The finished beer is bright red in color with an aroma of raspberry and oak. Its raspberry-forward flavor is balanced by notes of light funk, apricot, and a tart, dry finish.

12.7 oz corked and caged. Aroma has notes of raspberries, wood, funk, vanilla. Pours hazy pinkish-red with a fleeting head. Taste is moderately sour (7/10), finishing pretty dry. Has a nice raspberry flavor with mild woody notes from the oak. Very tasty.

Very nice stuff, though having sought it out for so long it was a little bit of an overhyped. Also overshadowed by how much I liked the FV18 just before. Objectively awesome though still. Cherry and raspberry. Crackery lime vibe like lambics. Ruby red pour with good pink head and lacing. Tangy end. Tap at Sovereign.

Bottle from 2014. Pours quite hazy red, small white fizzy head that disappears fairly quickly leaving some lacing. Aroma is loaded with funk, basement must, hint of mushroom, wet leaves, some berries, barnyard. Flavor is light tart with a hint of residual sweetness and a fairly pronounced funk. Medium body, soft carbonation. Quite good.

Pours clear raspberry into a tulip. Pink head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Lactic raspberry funk aromas. Sharp carbonation with mildly tart lactic raspberry upfront turning to bitter seeds before the medium length aspirin finish.
