This is a tremendously delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

Draught in muted horn. Cloudy orange with a medium head. Aroma of pepper and fruit. Flavour is yeast and citrus spice, light fruit finish, a little chili on the palate.

(r1187). Color ámbar tostado con espuma blanca. Sabores maltas y cereales con toques ácidos frescos. Cuerpo medio con ligero amargo final suave algo herbáceos y cítricos frescos. Bastante buena para repetir sin duda.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 2018. Pours slightly hazy golden orange color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big lemon, orange, peach, apricot, strawberry, pineapple, pear, apple, white pepper, clove, citrus peel, hay, straw, floral, herbal, grass, funk, wheat, honey, cracker, bread, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemon, orange, peach, apricot, strawberry, pineapple, pear, apple, white pepper, clove, citrus peel, hay, straw, floral, herbal, grass, funk, wheat, honey, cracker, bread, and yeast earthiness. Moderate yeast spiciness and light tart/tangy fruitiness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, orange, peach, apricot, strawberry, pineapple, pear, apple, white pepper, clove, citrus peel, hay, straw, floral, herbal, grass, funk, wheat, honey, cracker, bread, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great malt/tart/spiciness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from tart/spiciness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/sticky, and lightly acidic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol for 8%. Overall this is a fantastic saison. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/spicy yeast and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and fairly crisp/refreshing to drink with the balanced tart/spiciness. Amazing yeast complexity and balancing malt character; while still remaining nicely drying, spicy, tart, and funky; despite having modest carbonation for the style. A highly enjoyable offering all around.

Hazy honey, huge white head, that stays. Yeasty nose. A bit wild. Very Belgian feel while tasting. Massively spicy. Minimal wildness. Pear. Other fruit. Light bitterness. Good.

Bottle from belgoklubben, cellared for a couple of years. Pours hazy, syrupy golden with no head. Aroma and taste of weak pineapple juice and not so much else. Hints of spices and citrus, but they are weak.

Big time gushing. Remaining liquid is about half of the bottle. Hazy/murky bright orange colour with huge fluffy head, shows decent persistence and very nice lacing. Aroma shows fresh fruitiness (citrus, peach), a mild funkish, quite lambic-like feel and slight spiciness. That is quite sweet with very strong/fresh fruity notes (again citrus, peach), nicely attenuated by moderate tartness. Again a slight hint of spiciness and a balanced, moderately earthy finish. Medium bodied with medium to high carbonation, pretty lively but still nicely soft. A very interesting beer in terms of aroma and flavour profile, but (at least in this bottle) not totally devoid of flaws.
