Cask @ Cumberland Bar, Edinburgh [070213]
Dark brown, dense off white head, dense lacing
Aroma of soft fruity hops with soft dark roast
Taste of roasted malts, bit of chocolate, slight puff candy, touch burnt, touch of orange citrus and piney hops, slightly custardy, not sure of the structure of this - wasn’t mad keen on the taste
Palate - Medium body, oily mouthfeel. Finish as main flavour, tail of chcolate and fruity citrus hop with a touch of burnt toast in the linger, bit gooey residue
Overall - I really like Black IPAs, but I wasn’t that keen on this - it’s not a hoppy Black IPA - I like stouty BIPAs but this didn’t ’work’ that well for me. I’m sure other drinkers will enjoy it....

Aroma: Roasted malt with muted lime notes.
Appearance: Dark brown body with a thin beige head that slowly fades. Good lacing.
Taste: Sharp, tangy fruit flavour. Hoppy but with a nice roasted malt character.
Palate: Medium body with a very oily texture. Flat carbonation.
Overall: Is it a Black IPA, as they claim, or a Bitter, as it tastes? I’m not really sure, but either way, it’s pretty good.
