30th April 2016, on tap at Provision Market, Old Town Orange. Slight haze to the Amber coloured body, the head a decent sized beige blanket. Boozy from the start with a mix fruit bowl drizzled with malty molasses as a base aroma and taste, yummy and completely the wrong beer for a quick lunchtime drink (luckily I had downed a Weak Lager before ordering this), but I like Bootlegger beers and Barley Wines and I wasn’t driving.

Hazy deep amber beer, good pale tan head. Palate is airy, a little soft and has reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth malts bring some toffee - cream. Mild caramel. Little spicy aniseed alcohol and a touch of brandy. Ripe fruits before a warming spicy finish. Decent.

Sample at GABF 10/04/2014, thanks to my BIL for assistance with note-taking. Clear dark amber color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Partial ring of lacing. Aroma of malt, pine and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, pine and earthy hops. The finish is malty and fruity. Pretty good overall.

Keg at the Commons Ale House, Santa Monica, 16/04/14. Orange amber with a moderate light beige covering. Nose is pretty hop forward for a barley wine, bitter tropicana, barley sugar, grapefruit, caramel, if I didn’t know this was being classed as a barley wine I’d have guessed it was a big ballsy double or triple IPA! Taste follows a similar line, sweet licks, caramel, grapefruit, pine, bitter orange, spice, light booze. Full bodied, fine carbonation, light dryness in the close with a lick of booze. Decent enough hoppy barley wine (its a TIPA really !)
