Idjit is a potent imperial stout, black as the night and dark as sin. Loaded with roasted malts and the perfect amount of bittering hops, it is as smooth as it is powerful. A beer you can count on, any time, any where.
This beer started out as an experiment. Mikael likes to tell the story like this: One of our brewers wanted to see how strong a beer we could brew (at our old brewery in Mölndal). The result was a 16% imperial stout which according to Mikael was super gross; Too much of everything, unbalanced. An idiot beer if you will. However, after a few tries of scaling the recipe down and tweaking it a bit, getting the malt bill just right, we had made our idiot into our Idjit. And as we all know, Idjits rule!

Black color; beige head, creamy. The aroma shows at first burnt malts, burnt bread; later the aroma becomes more interesting, more refined, with some alcohol too. Good body structure, and smooth mouthfeel; good mix of dark chocolate and roasted malts, strong tar impression, very light vanilla and liquorice; correct bitterness; the final doesn’t exceed in the roastiness, while the alcohol is maybe too much evident. A very good one.

Draft at Tre Små Rum. Pours black with tan head. Strong coffee aroma with a little chocolate and smoke. Flavor is mainly coffee with a dryness and alcohol finish. Soft carbonation. (Rated 2011/04/16)

Bottle @ Papsø. Pours a black color with a small off-white head. Has a roasted malty thick chocolate aroma. Roasted malty bitter chocolate flavor with hints of coffee. Has a long roasted malty coffee and chocolate finish with some bitterness in the aftertaste.

Cheers to Gnoff for bringing this gem to Florida. Brune foncée, fine mousse moka. Arôme est superbement malte quasi chocolaté en poudre qui est bien au devant. Note de noisette avec le chocolat qui prend vraiment le dessus. En bouche, cette bière est vraiment une énorme surprise de par la complexité de son palais. L’alcool étant à 9.5%, le tout reste bien caché, mais les saveurs y sont vraiment bien présentes et se développent au fur et à mesure de la dégustation. Malt, café/grillé, notes de noisettes avec en retrait un profile ayant une fine couche de levure qui reste domine par un côté café au lait et cacao.

Bottle. Black, no head. Very nice aroma of roasted coffee, dark chocolate, licorice and some vanilla. The same in the great taste, but mostly coffee. Long and dry finish. Truly a wonderful beer from Dugges that was easy to drink.

Bottled. A black beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of expresso coffee and chocolate. The flavor is sweet with notes of expresso coffee and chocolate, leading to a dry alcoholic finish, where the expresso note lingers.

Närmast kosvart med lågt skum som helt försvinner. Lite kolsyra kvar. Stor söt doft av katrinplommon, annan torkad frukt och bränt socker. Mörkt sirapssöt smak, mycket brända toner som försvinner efter ett tag då smaklökarna vant sig, mycket fyllig och men samtidigt len maltkropp, lätt vinös, massor av torkad frukt. Lite jäst i botten. Kommer att bli fantastisk om några år, men bra redan nu.

Bottle 250ml.Clear dark red brown color with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, moderate burnt malt, light chocolate, licorice notes. Flavor is light heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, coffee, dark dark malt. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20101122]

25 cL bottle. Pours dark brown to black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malty and dark chocolate. Smooth dark chocolate, liqourice too. Rich malt flavoured. Light fruity hops note coming through. Ends dry and dark roasted malty, rather rich. Ends dry and malty. Lasting liqourice flavour.
