Idjit is a potent imperial stout, black as the night and dark as sin. Loaded with roasted malts and the perfect amount of bittering hops, it is as smooth as it is powerful. A beer you can count on, any time, any where.

This beer started out as an experiment. Mikael likes to tell the story like this: One of our brewers wanted to see how strong a beer we could brew (at our old brewery in Mölndal). The result was a 16% imperial stout which according to Mikael was super gross; Too much of everything, unbalanced. An idiot beer if you will. However, after a few tries of scaling the recipe down and tweaking it a bit, getting the malt bill just right, we had made our idiot into our Idjit. And as we all know, Idjits rule!

Pours a deep bubbly cola into a tulip. Mocha head recedes to hug rim. Sweet chocolate and espresso aromas. Thick with deep dark espresso upfront turning to milk chocolate in the middle before a lasting hot mocha finish.

Bottle @ Rene’s house, courtesy of a very generous Swedish beer trader. Dark brown appearance with a dark brown head that looked very carbonated. Dark chocolate, very rich anise, vanilla, char, a bit smoky aroma. Very herbal/earthy, richly chocolate, espresso, syrupy, anise, char, somewhat fruity flavor. This type of Imperial Stout really isn’t up my alley. It’s thick, strong, and somewhat boozy. Kind of hard for me to drink. (3.2) Update: 0.5L tasted at Armin’s place and much superior and cleaner than my previous bottle in Denmark. (3.7)

Bottle. Pours black with brown head. Nose/taste of sweet milk chocolate, heavily roasted chocolate malt, cocoa, coffee, vanilla and light lactose sweetness. Body on the thinner side for an imperial. Solid.

Bottle shared by Marcus. Pours very dark brown with no head. Aromas of dark plum and coffee. Full bodied. Dark fruit, coffee, treacle. Finishes coffee and fairly dry. Certainly a little bitter.

Sample @ Porterfestivalen in Gothenburg on November 19. Pours brownish black with a small chocolate brown head. Smell is very complex and sweet with roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla and some alcohol. Taste is sweet and fullbodied with chocolate, vanilla, raisins, port wine and a warming alcohol sensation. Finish is slightly sweet with chocolate and coffee and lasts for quite some time.

500mL bottle, split with Matts_Property, pours black with a small light brown head. Aroma of wood, darkly roasted malts and some cappuccino. The roasted / wood qualities are most pronounced on the nose. Flavour follows and is massively roasted with roasted malt, lots of wood and a bit of burnt espresso. Palate is rich and rough. Delicious.

(Bottle, 0.25 l - BBE jun 2013, from Systembolaget, 20111105) The beeer poured black. Its head was small and light brown. Aroma had roasted malts, cocolate, coffee and liquorice. Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were roasted malts, hops, chocolate, liquorice, saltiness and bitterness. Aftertaste had roasted malts, liquorice and bitterness. Very nice, complex and still balanced imperial stout. I liked.

Bottle from trade with Tkrjukoff, tried at ‘Zieke Zuiden Tasting II’. Pitch black, opaque color, small brown head. Smell coffee, roasty, smoke and burned malts. Taste coffee, roasty, bitter and actually a lot more: complex taste. Very nice carbonation, medium to full body.
