Idjit is a potent imperial stout, black as the night and dark as sin. Loaded with roasted malts and the perfect amount of bittering hops, it is as smooth as it is powerful. A beer you can count on, any time, any where.

This beer started out as an experiment. Mikael likes to tell the story like this: One of our brewers wanted to see how strong a beer we could brew (at our old brewery in Mölndal). The result was a 16% imperial stout which according to Mikael was super gross; Too much of everything, unbalanced. An idiot beer if you will. However, after a few tries of scaling the recipe down and tweaking it a bit, getting the malt bill just right, we had made our idiot into our Idjit. And as we all know, Idjits rule!

Tap at the Beer Temple, Amsterdam. Poured a deep mahogany with a frothy light tan head and lots of broken lace. The aroma is rich creamy coffee and roasted malt. The flavour is strong bitter with a big smooth liqourice alcohol bitter malt palate. Full bodied with flat carbonation and a long bitter finish.

500ml bottle. Opaque black body. Thin oily beige head. Rather still, not much carbonation. Big coffee chocolate flavors. A touch watery, with some burnt black coffee charred tastes. A little heat. Pretty good, maybe not so well aged on my part.

0.33l bottle. A deep dark brown pour with a nice medium sized latte-brown head. The nose is lovely vanilla infused with lots of roastiness, a fresh amount of fruity green hops, it has some dark coffee tones and it feels really roasted and perhaps also a little burned in general. Nice stuff. It has a thick almost chewy mouthfeel this and the carbonation is below average and almost prickling. Nice dark flavors. Much more chocolate oriented in the taste. Enjoying the rich flavor here, it's almost creamy in a way. Lots of roasted malts, the vanilla is also found in the taste and it's not noticeable to notice the hardly noticeable alcohol.(yeah) It has a almost bitter burned roastiness that I actually think is suiting this quite well. That dark roasted flavor lingers in the aftertaste. A fine one. 07.06.2013

Smallish brown head. Barely translucent deep dark brown body. Earthy roasty dusty chocolatey aroma with rye crisp bread notes. Sweetish roasty dusty chocolatey taste with minty strawy notes. Full-bodied. Sharpish, slightly hot, mealy mouthfeel. Dryish buttery roasty chocolatey aftertaste with earthy coffee grounds notes. Nice, drinkable, interesting, harmonic. (0.33l bottle, from wine monopoly, Vika, Oslo.)

Draught. Black with a brown tint. Dense, creamy tan head. Sweet aroma with roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, licorice and dark, dried fruits. A vinous note. Taste is sweet. Excellent aroma and flavor. Full body with a thick feel and a soft carbonation. Long lasting dry, roasted finish with coffee, licorice, vanilla and coconuts. Simply an excellent stout!
