"Double" (imperial) wheat stout.

This imperial really strikes back. From a strange country far, far away, comes the only Imperial Wheat Stout in the known universe. Once again, the ’Hand’ brewery - four guys brewing in their spare time, on an absurdly small scale - boldly goes where no brewery has gone before.

bottle - Pours black with a one finger tan head. The aroma is roast malt with lots of chocolate. It tastes of sweet, very chocolate rich malt with a hint of vanilla and subdued hops. Bottled in August ’07. Based on other reviewers nothing substantial bitterness, I’m assuming that the age of my bottle is why it’s much more subdued. Still a tasty brew though with a medium to full body. Easy drinking imperial stout.

Colour is black, head is big and airy but rather short-lived. Nose is liquorice, bitter chocolate, smoke and perhaps a little bit of orange peel. Mouthfeel is surprisingly thin. Flavour is very dry and roasted and has notes of smoke and charcoal. The alcohol gives it a somewhat harsh finish.

Bottle. Quite special imperial stout. Hoppy and with lots of roasted malt. There is also an oaky, smoked quality to it.
