Tap at 4:20. Dark brown pour with a thick, beige head. Ashy, dry roasty malts on the nose, subtle cocoa. Great flavor, not overly sweet, plenty of cocoa, toasty and roasty malts, ashes, slight beef jerky, mild smoke. Full in body with average carbonation. Warm, light smokey finish, peat, cocoa, coffee. On tap at Borefts 2012, Bodegraven. Pours black with a creamy, beige head. Dark malt nose, some licorice, candied sugars. Big sweet flavor sugary chocolate, dark sugars, faint roast. Full bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Modest warmth to finish, rich dark sugars, some sweet chocolate. Nice stuff. (3.8)

500mL bottle, pours black with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, peat and oat. Flavour is smoky roasted malt, peat, oat and cereal. Simple and smoky, though not too invigorating.

Black with a dark brown head. Aroma is sweet, hard roasted malt, burnt and hoppy. Flavor is rather sweet and rather hoppy. Bitter, dry and roasted finish. Smooth and soft. Couldn’t pick up the wheat. 160211

0.5l bottle @ Baran. Pours a gigantous thick and dark head. Aroma is quite heavy on nuts, dark coffee, some wood and lots of roasted malts. Lively carbonated and fully bodied. Fantastic nutty and light acidic in taste followed by a smooth oily chocolate finish. Fantastic!

500 ml bottle at the 5th Annual Epic Beer Tasting in Richmond, VA, November 28, 2010. Pours pitch black with a thin dark brown head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, wheat, smoke and caramel. The taste is honey, smoke, roasted malts, citrus and a nutty note. Medium bodied.

Batch #217, April 2009, Best Before April 2010, sampled October 2010. Deep, pitch black coloured body, showing some slight browns on the pour with a large light brown head that fades fast. Aroma of very strong roasted malt, coffee, nuts, alcohol, oak, vanilla and a touch of some meat. Medium to Full-bodied; Assertive mouthful up front with roasted malt and alcohol coming through at first with a hint of coffee and chocolate and even an effervescing taste of hops and oak. Aftertaste just strong and perhaps a tad overpowering, with licorice and woodsy spices taking out everything else. Overall, a good imperial stout, perhaps a bit too deep on the palate, but showing nice complexity and a good profile throughout - less on the chocolate and sweet side and more on the licorice and intense pungent flavours. I sampled this 50 cL bottle purchased from Liquor Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 11-July-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 05-October-2010.

This is a very good Imperial Stout that has a wonderfully smooth feel. The flavor is chocolatey and deeply roasted. There is a fair bit of hop bitterness, maybe a bit more than I want. The feel is silky and creamy. Great looking beer with deep black-brown liquid topped with a mocha head.

Draft at Bavarian Lodge. Gooey dark—I thought I saw purple highlights. The scent is a bit subdued for such a big beer: I get a nose of coffee and sweet malt, but not much else. But the taste is a perfect example of why raters go for the Imperial Stouts. A big chocolaty taste, but some wheat spice still finds its way through. Almost brings back that "wow" moment of my first Bourbon County Stout years ago. Sweet mocha goodness. Definitely shows alcohol, but not in a pushy way. Thick and sticky malts. Bitterness not very apparent, just too keep all this malt in check. A full-on imperial beer taste that more than overcompensates for a relatively mild nose.

Drunk and rated to celebrate my rating number 17,500. Bottled. A pitch black beer wit a thick very dark brown head. The aroma has notes of hard roasted malt, wood, berries, dark chocolate, and soy sauce. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of roastes malt, as well as medium notes of soy sauce, wood, and dark chocolate, as well as just hints of wheat, before the dry roasted, and woody finish sets in.
