Many years ago, a mysterious book was discovered by a group of friends in a Ferndale, MI basement. A translation of its contents revealed the recipe for an ancient beverage using mango juice, honey, and black pepper. What they didn’t realize was that creating the beverage had dire consequences. Pale blond color. Light product, elegant, fruity, lightly sweet, floral, peppery, dryish in the final.
I’m not sure this should be called mead, but it’s a good drink.

(Draught at Bishop’s Arms Folkungagatan, Stockholm, 24 Jan 2015) Pale yellow colour with frothy, white head. Fruity nose with notes of honey, birch leaves, spruce needles and mango. Fruity taste with honey, birch leaves, grass, mango, birch sap and a black-pepper touch that is fairly well hidden, but turns up as a certain heat after a while. Medium body, with a well balanced sweetness. Interesting and tasty. Quite nice.

500ml bottle from Mikkeller webshop. Clear pale yellow, no head and aroma of sweet mango & melon, flowery, incense & honey, black pepper. Taste is juicy mango, bubblegum, fruity, floral, honey, spice and lingering pepper. Slightly oily mouthfeel, light bodied, low carbonation, crisp peppery warming finish. Interesting, nicely drinkable.

Bleek en helder licht geel zonder kraag. aroma van honing, redelijk fruitig van de mango, en iets pittigs (’t zal de peper wezen). smaken zijn redelijk zoet, honing, frisse groene appels, licht zuurtje, medium body, glad en niet al te dik, lage co2 met zoetige afdronk. maar Hell Yes wat is dit een uniek en heerlijk smakend biertje zeg. Ik denk dat niet iedereen dit spul zal weten te waarderen, en velen zullen het te dun/licht/beperkt vinden, maar ik niet ! unieke ervaring, bij elke slok komt het pepertje en de mango binnen waarna de honing het overneemt, na enige tijd komt het pepertje weer terug, Heerlijk !!!!
