After the ‘Zatte’, this is the oldest beer from Brouwerij ‘t IJ. Natte is classed as a ‘dubbel’, a Belgian category of smooth, dark beers. Because we partly use dark malt, Natte has a reddish-brown colour and a smooth, roasted flavour with earthy tones of brown sugar, nuts and plums. Completed with slightly bitter hops, this is a nicely balanced beer and one of the brewery’s classics.

33cl bottle at Håndverkerstuene, Oslo. Pours slightly hazy dark golden to amber with an off-white head. Aroma of malt and dried fruits with some basement aromas and hints of caramel. Medium to lightly sweet with a balanced bitterness. Pleasant and easy to drink. (2012-09-15)

0.33l bottle. Slowly popping up from the bottle and landing on my kitchen sink, but in the glass it's light blurry caramel-amber with a quickly fading and lightly lacing off-white head. On the aroma I get fermented ripe red fruits with some alcohol and dried fruits. A bit malt sweet. It's average+ carbonated and it has a light oily texture in the mouth. Flavors also lot's of red dried berries and fruits, some alcohol, thin nutty-caramel snickers, watery sweet caramel and it has a light metallic and bitter finish. Not horrible at all. 28.07.2012

33 cl bottle @ Gastropub Tuulensuu. Rated on 07.08.2010
Somewhat sour aroma has caramel and candi sugar. Flavour has some earthy sourness, nuts, malt and hints of chocolate. A good dubbel, but I like the other ’t IJ products more. Somehow the sourness does not fit here perfectly.

Bottle. An unclear, golden-brown ber topped by a minimal sized off-white head. Some caramel on the nose, a hint of cellar and some yeast, as well as dried fruits. Bitterness towards the finish, at first it’s malty and caramel-ish with a touch of cellar and dried fruits. Medium to full body, heavy on the carbonation. Overall, quite nice, but not impressive in any way. 110502

This beer has the same smell as most ’t IJ bieren and i sometimes describe this smell as vomit. Taste is also not that good. Mouthfeel scored pretty good though!

This beer is just no good: it doesn’t look right, it doesn’t smell right, it doesn’t taste right. Only the carbs are ok for a 6.5 ABV.
