After the ‘Zatte’, this is the oldest beer from Brouwerij ‘t IJ. Natte is classed as a ‘dubbel’, a Belgian category of smooth, dark beers. Because we partly use dark malt, Natte has a reddish-brown colour and a smooth, roasted flavour with earthy tones of brown sugar, nuts and plums. Completed with slightly bitter hops, this is a nicely balanced beer and one of the brewery’s classics.

On top at the brewery. Pours a clear amber with a grayish tan head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has light fruit with sweet grains and a touch of caramel. Flavor has sweet light fruits and sweet grains with a bread backing.

Draught. Opaque amber to brown, frothy off-white head that vanishes quickly. Aroma caramel, roasty, grainy, dough, touch of vanilla. Taste medium sweet, light bitterness, medium body, average carbonation, roasty malts and slight bitterness in finish. Has never been one of my favourite IJ-beers, too sugary.

Bottle: Poured a murky brown orange with off white colored head. Aroma was sweet sticky fruit. Taste was strong dark fruit that stuck to your tongue with hints of caramel. Finish was dry.

Muddy brown colour. Flavour is quite yeasty. Lacking in the warming dark malts of a Dubbel. Also too gassy.

330ml bottle in great company with Hege and OleR at Håndverkerstuene. Amber coloured body with a ruby tint. Diminishing grey-white head. Poor lacing. Aroma of dark malts, mid-sweet, and herbal hops. Peaches, plums and caramel malts in flavour. Sweet and bitter to the finish. Well balanced and fine with the lamb (Oslo, 15.09.2012).
