Brewed for the 5 year anniversary of BeerTemple, Amsterdam. American North-West double IPA 8% abv, 75ebu, 15ebc with 5 hops for each year BeerTemple: simcoe, chinook, citra, amarillo & columbus.
The Big Fat 5 is the housebeer for the BeerTemple but also available at the other Morebeer Bars; Proeflokaal Arendsnest, 'cause BEER loves FOOD and Craft & Draft.
To celebrate the 5th anniversary of the BeerTemple, we asked Robbert Uyleman of Brewery ’t Uiltje to make an IPA with us for this special occasion! Dry-hopped to the bone, and as fresh as it can be! Straight from the tank into the kegs, transported with a refrigerated truck and into our own fridge, this IPA will never lose his bitter coolness before you start drinking...

Pours a slightly hazy orangey color, topped with a decent off-white head, very decent retention. Initial aroma is amazing - lots of pleasant tropical fruits, mango, peaches, grapefruit. Later on some caramel malt in the back. Taste starts with some fruity sweetness, a bit biscuity with realtively mild hoppy bitterness. Some fruity notes (grapefruit) in the aftertaste. Very nice double IPA. Love it.

Bottle at home. Slight hazy dark golden to light amber with off white head that leaves a nice big ring of bubbles. Massive aroma of pine, citrus peel, lots of tropical fruits with mango, lychee, pineapple. Also some light marihuana and herbs, though it’s mainly pine and tropical notes that dominate. Light caramel backbone that stays in the background but holds up the bops well. Taste is light to medium sweet with over medium bitterness. Well balanced and not too sweet. Medium bodies with slight syrupy feel. Lovely beer.

Bottle shared at Leighton’s 27/05/2015. Many thanks to Leighton. Light hazed golden / orange coloured pour with a loose halo of white head. Aroma is light caramel malts, toffee, spicy pine resin and citrus hop, orange and varnish. Flavour is composed of toffee, caramel, juicy orange peel, resinous hops, varnish. Palate is sticky resinous hops, highish carbonation, little sweet. Solid DIPA.

Enjoyed at the BeerTemple, for which this has apparently been made. Big creamy, egg-white, stable head, hazy peach blonde colour. Aroma of orange peel, pine resin, pink grapefruit, bitter honey, wet hay, pineapple, some caramel. Complex fruitiness, peach, pineapple and redcurrant, honeyish malt sweetness with full and soft mouthfeel, slight saltiness announcing a big wave of early, long, drying, resiny, piney and lively citrussy hop bitterness, powerful but still in perfect balance with the yeasty fruitiness and malt sweetness. This is an exemplary DIPA indeed and worthy to celebrate an epic beer pub like the BeerTemple.

On tap. Pours a clear amber with moderate head. Aromas of toffee, sweet malts, pineapple and a little rubber. Flavors are same but richer and with more tropical fruit. Smooth, full and somewhat chewy. A very good take on a big North American Imperial.

Bottle at Masion du LKS. Thanks Leighton! It pours clear deep orange with a medium white head. The nose is soft orange, peach, tangerine, apricot, oily Cointreau, bready malts, muffin, honey and hot cross bun. The taste is bitter-sweet, oily, orange, tangerine, Cointreau, pine, apricot, some grassy/hay notes and zest with a slick, dry finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Smooth and rather easy-going for the style. Nice.

Bottle shared in London - picked up at Kris Wines. Pours clear, bright gold with a frothy white head. Lots of ripe citrus on the nose, some oily pine. Medium sweet flavor with loads of piney hops, low bitterness, bread, tangerine, orange, alcohol. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation. Resinous finish, lots of ripe and gooey citrus, some booze, pale bread. Pretty good stuff overall.
