Brewed for the 5 year anniversary of BeerTemple, Amsterdam. American North-West double IPA 8% abv, 75ebu, 15ebc with 5 hops for each year BeerTemple: simcoe, chinook, citra, amarillo & columbus.
The Big Fat 5 is the housebeer for the BeerTemple but also available at the other Morebeer Bars; Proeflokaal Arendsnest, 'cause BEER loves FOOD and Craft & Draft.
To celebrate the 5th anniversary of the BeerTemple, we asked Robbert Uyleman of Brewery ’t Uiltje to make an IPA with us for this special occasion! Dry-hopped to the bone, and as fresh as it can be! Straight from the tank into the kegs, transported with a refrigerated truck and into our own fridge, this IPA will never lose his bitter coolness before you start drinking...

Can, 8%. Ok malty aroma, slightly farty. Cloudy golden colour. Big stable white head. The flavour is quite bitter. Slightly caramelly with a grainy acidity. Resiny, but not caramelly enough, and perhaps actually almost smoked - and not in the good way. After half a glass it mellows out and becomes more friendly. Caramelly with a good alcohol level. But still sort of smokey.

Can, from BeerTemple, Amsterdam. Pours hazy straw with stable white head. Clear aroma of hops and citrus, with touches of malt and yeast, and fruity hints. Bitter flavour of hops and citrus, with estery and malty notes, and fruity touches. Citric and bitter aftertaste with estery and malty touches. Well- balanced and satiating. A nice one.

Hazy and intense light orange, with a quite big fluffy white head. Pretty good retention and lots of nice lacing. Good intensity and brightness in the aroma. Nice fruity profile: strong grapefruit, some more citric notes (tangerine and stuff), peach. A bit of herbal/resinous smell too, but in a kind of soft way. As the smell suggested, there's no bittering sharpness in this ipa, despite quite vivid bitterness. Soft malty foundation (can't really pick specific flavours), a mellow kind of grassy/resinous undernote, strong fruity notes (as per aroma). Again vivid and refreshing, maybe not super brightly defined. Balanced in both mouth and taste, with a fruity aftertaste. Medium body, medium or slightly below medium carbonation; it's a soft, light-bubbled kind of carbo, at least if compared to most ipas, resulting in a quite soft/smooth feel for the style. Overall: a mellow but still intense strong ipa; not especially deep but well made and very refreshing.

Canned, 330 ml courtesy of and shared with Ambasada guys. Hazy orange, small white head. Malty, caramel, sweet, old hops all around, ripe fruit. Moderate carbonation. Medium bodied. This has seen better days, although it's not that old. Should re-rate.
