My favorite beer in the early 80's. Thin frothy head. Strong malty hoppy buttery aroma. Relatively full bodied bitter with hops, some alcohol, butter and caramel in the flavor. A good example of how taste evoluates through the years. Sorry my love, I still like you, but I have an other sweetheart brew now!

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Appearance - deep copper with a very slightly off white head. Nose - fudge and brown bread. Raisins. Taste - fudge again. Prunes and raisins again. Palate - medium bodied and creamy in texture. Decent linger and decent balance. Overall - good.

0.5 bottle. Gyönyörű mély, sötét borostyán szín. Barnásfehér hab, viszonylag gyorsan apad, de a pohárra tapad. Élesztős, malátás, de háttérben gyümölcsösen komlós illat. Íze meglepően jó. Gyümölcsös, testes, keserű is megfelelő szinten. Remek komlózás. Nem lehet benne csalódni, ismét egy nagyon finom bitter.

Beautiful deep dark amber color. Brownish-white foam, fades relatively quickly, but adheres to the glass. Yeasty, malty, but fruity hop fragrance in the background. It tastes surprisingly good. Fruity, full-bodied, bitter at the right level. Great hops. You can’t be disappointed in it, again a very fine bitter.

bottiglia 50 cl , schiuma fine beige media persistenza, colore ambrato limpido, al naso malto caramello cereali e leggero agrumi, in bocca malto cereali caramello pane, corpo rotondo, carbonatazione piatta, dolce con amaro moderato. Buona ma non mia ha fatto impazzire. 16.03.19

Drinking this is Germany, it's probably just too old. It tastes thin and bittered, unpleasantly.

Amber color with malty and earthy aroma. Complex flavor of sweet malt any caramel, very slight coffee and roasted or a little smoke flavor. Earthy. Balanced hop bitterness, not overly hoppy.

Bottle at home, 23rd February 18. Pours chestnut brown. Aroma is malt, caramel. Taste is nutty, malt, caramel, biscuit. Really great example of this style and enjoyable by the fire, even with the cold I have!

Klar bernsteinfarben mit weißer Schaumkrone. Vordergründig malziger, leicht hopfiger Geruch. Geschmacklich vordergründig malzig süß, etwas Karamell, leicht grasiger Hopfen, ausbalancierte, leichte Bitterkeit. Leichter Körper mit sanfter Kohlensäure. Sehr erfrischend und geradlinig.

I got this sample in a trade with Wasatch. Thanks John!

My, it's been years since I've had my last Fuller's ESB and I was surprised to see that I hadn't reviewed it yet.

This pours from 16.9 oz bottle(best by 30/Sep/06) a clear amber-red with a small but firm head of foam. Note: I poured the entire bottle into my "Killian's Irish Red" pint glass and it never even threatened to overflow. Cool.

The smell is nice and malty. Lots of caramel with a touch of fruit and a touch of grain.

The taste has a big caramel kick up front with a touch of butterscotch, some dark fruit)plum) and a bigger note of wild cherries that add a slight pungency that works well on my palate. Man, I've always liked this ESB but trouble is, most of the time that I seek it out, nay, every time I seek it out, it's well past its best by date. Good thing that an "old" Fuller's ESB is *still* a mighty tasty brew.

Anywho, it has a good thickish mouthfeel and the carbonation is light. Good stuff!
