Z Lager is an exotic lager with a slight aromatic smoke flavor, perfect for any occasion. Slight caramel undertones and a bright amber color compliment Z’s prominent smoke flavors.

12 oz bottle purchased at Lukas in Overland Park, Kansas. Pour is clear golden burgundy with a very minimal off white head. Aroma of sweet biscuit maltiness, some honey notes. Taste is the sweet maltiness initially, moving to an almost soda water mineral in the middle, finishing with a smoky roastiness that kind of came out of nowhere. Palate is thinnish, drinkable with a dry ashy finish. Not unpleasant, just a bit disjointed.

Pours gold into a shaker. Offwhite head recedes to hug rim. Sweet malt aromas. Slight smoked malt - mostly just straightforward lager.

12 oz bottle-pours a foamy tan head and reddish copper color. Aroma is mild medium malt-woody/caramel. Taste is smoky/charred/peat/metallic medium malt-woody/caramel. Some herbal/spicy continental hops. Semi dry, thinnish-medium body. A not in your face, OK beer. Thanks to Joe-jwc215 for sharing.

I ignored the poor ratings and bought this anyway, because I need to try any smoked I haven’t had before - I’m pretty glad I did - copper/orange pour, with a faint ring of lace - the smoke is moderate in the aroma, with notes of caramel, and light, lagered fruitiness - the smoke is a little less prominent in the flavor, as some crisp hoppiness and some light bready/grainy notes take the lead - a little sweet, but it doesn’t interfere with the hop bitterness and light wood/smoke - a subtle and light beer - this will become a staple for me when summer comes.

Deep amber coloured body with a ruby and orange tint and a nice tan head. Aroma of fresh hops (dry hopped it seems), malt, caramel and of course, a small dash of smoked peat. Light-bodied; Strong smokey flavour up front fading to a light malt backbone and covered up by a small blanket of hops. Aftertaste shows very little with some alcohol mixed in with the aforementioned. Overall, nothing too exciting, and simply another smoked disappointment. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased at Norm’s in Vienna, Virginia on 30-January-2008.

The Germans seem to love to do a nice pale lager with hints of smoke. Well, this is in the same vein but much better, probably because it’s fresher ad they amped up the smoke a bit more than the traditional versions. the beer pours a completely lucid copper color and a small head. Aroma is present and starts with a light shot of campfire smoke followed by the sweet smokiness and finishes with a really authentic white bread clean yet lightly sweet German matiness. Taste is stronger on the sweet smoke and again a very clean maltiness. Even a slight extra noble hop kick in the end. A very nice, light drinking, low bitter, German replication with just a hint of the American twist.

OK, so I bought this thinking it was a regular old lager. I should have known it was something more at the first sip. Malt and yeast near carob aroma. Has a taste that somewhat reminds me of many ales. Creamy mild carbonation. Interesting linger with spice and some bitterness. I would have never known this was a smoked if I didn’t see it on this site.

Pour is a amber with a average white head. Aroma is lots of caramel malts and a touch of something sweet like honey. Flavor is smoke but not in a gaging meaty sorta way. Its there just enough. Finish is again smoky but nothing over the top. I am not really a fan of smoked but this one is prob one of the best i have had since all of the smoke qualities are there but not in a big way.

The smoke in this beer adds a nice touch to the sweet maltiness that dominates the flavor. Hazy amber body with a short, off-white head that disappears quickly. Aroma is smokey with strong notes of malt, especially toasted bread and toffee. Very light hint of floral hops. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Finish comes up smoke. Medium body and light carbonation. Enjoyable.

bottle - Pours amber with a one finger head. It smells of caramel malt and mild smoke. Now the good - I thought the smoke flavor was at just the right level. It was quite noticeable without being overpowered like another smoked beer I had that seemed more like liquid smoked sausage. I preferred the balance of the Z lager. The bad - the underlying beer needs to be more substantial. It’s thin, sweet, and lacking, like a very average amber. The finish is fairly sweet with just a lingering hint of smoke.
