pour a deep black with just a slight amount of light coming through near the top, with a bubbly beige head. Aroma if big on milk chocolate, roasted malt, coffee, and some molasses. Flavor is quite nice, this reminds me alot of an imperial stout, but minus the booziness, and the thick mouthfeel, and over the top sweetness. The mouthfeel is perfect not too thick, not too thin. The alcohol is nowhere to be found. This is dangerously drinkable! Lots of great roasted malt flavors, mixed with coffee, and milk chocolate, with touches of molasses, and even a little borwn sugar. Really a quality beer.

Bottle shared by Nimbleprop. Thanks! Poured a hazy dark brown cola color with a wispy off-white head. Aroma was some light smoky roast. Nice more mellowed roast. Super smooth after all these years - 15 years!

Roast and smoke. Some rust--this is getting old now. A little caramel. Black pour with decent head. Light bitter finish. Bottle thanks to Nimbleprop.

From May 2008
I bought this bottle from South Bay Drugs & Liquor. Thanks Joey!
I opened the gold foiled and capped 750ml bottle and found a very dark brown brew with some reddish highlights. The head is a good 2 fingers deep and is off white in colour. Very good head retention and some very nice sticky lacing.
After taking a few whiffs, I can smell a lot of dark chocolate and dark fruit and a bit of coffee. It smells nice and inviting.
Hmm..first sip and boy this is a complex tasting brew for sure. I'd say the dark chocolate dominates my taste buds right out of the gate but there's more to this one. I get notes of plum, toffee, coffee, some vanilla, and a wee bit of alcohol is sneaking through. Ok, more than a wee bit but this is a pretty substantial brew both taste wise and alcohol wise.
The body is thickish bordering on syrupy, the carbonation is lightish, and it finishes with a pleasant bitterness both from the chocolate and the coffee influences. Nice brew for sure but I'm not going to be able to finish the whole bottle at 1 sitting. And...I just happen to have a cork that fits it perfectly. ;^0 I'll sip some more tomorrow.

Bottle courtesy of hackobock. Hazy blakish dark brown pour with a frothy pale mocha head. Dusty toasted malty nose. Raisins & prunes. Leather, port & wood. Sweet, sl bitter & malty. Thick round mouth. Cardboard all over. I’m sure this was great at its height but now it’s just too old.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with no head. The aroma is roasted malt, dark chocolate, mocha. Medium mouth, sweet roasted malt, cocoa, nice booze finish, very nice.

Tasting at Jack’s RAH Annexe! Thanks to Paul for this blast from the past. Almost opaque dark brown beer, small bubbly pale tan head. Palate is light. Oxidised malts, some caramel. Touches of dry cream and dark chocolate. Archeological fragment of hop. Light dry finish. Clearly aged but not bad.

Bottle at Chateau Jackl, big thanks to Da Croydon Hustler, 13/08/14. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a moderate tan swirl and covering. Nose carries light oxidisation but this is forgiveable as toffe fudge, fig infused dark fruits and light roast overpower this immediately balanced with woody notes and an earthy pitch. Taste comprises earthy vibes, cocoa powder, dark fruit rinds, dates, rich fruit cake, chocolate, musty pang. Medium + body, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a light booze trace. Decent stuff for 7 years old and the alcohol (has either dipped and/or) is well integrated!

Bottle shared in London - big thanks to Paul for this geriatric. Pours rich brown with a creamy tan head. The nose has some oxidized dark malts, cocoa, roast, dark fruits. Medium to big sweet flavor, some scorched earth, dark cherries, light coffee, baking cocoa, currants. Medium to full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish, some raisins, black currants, earth, toasty bread, mellow grain husk, cocoa. Well nuanced. Very nice.

Bottle shared at JackL’s.... It pours near black with a small tan head. The nose is rich, earthy, light oxidation, must, fig, cocoa, dark chocolate, light toast and rocky road. The taste is toasty, roast, wood, earth, must, booze, chewy, dark chocolate, chocolate cake and alcohol warmth with a dry, woody finish. Fullish body and fine carbonation. Aged for sure, but pretty well-rounded.
