Maybe you feel it already, when the cap is removed and you put your nose to the bottle - this " Stout " smells different than what you are accustomed to. We have dry hopped this stout in the late stages of fermentation using the American noble varieties of Nugget , Centennial and Cascade, which allow the floral tones that make this a characteristic Stout - flavours of roasted malt give both lightness and freshness.
The glass appears Sundby Stout black , while the head is tight, light brown and almost cappuccino creamy, the tongue senses both malt sweetness, hints of bitter dark chocolate and English liquorice. Sweetness, however, cleverly balances the hard roasted malt and the split , umalted and roasted barley , which both help to give beer its roasted flavor. Sundby Stout is a classic " Stout ", which nonetheless dares to be different and challenge convention.

Bottle from Beer Gonzo, webshop, Earlsdon, Coventry consumed at home Sunday 16th January 2017 whilst cooking Mechoui. Pours black as like’ with a light cappucinio coloured froth atop. Some dark bitter chocolate, a little fruity, quite smooth and with a milkiness. Liking this, its not terribly exciting but its very enjoyable. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

Bottle. Pours cloudy very dark brown with big, stable, creamy light tan head. Clear aroma of roast and malt, with notes of coffee, fruit and hops. Bitter, roasty flavour with notes of dark chocolate, malt and coffee and touches of yeast, hops and liquorice. Lingering, roasty and estery afteraste with liquorice notes. Creamy mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Well-balanced and very enjoyable. A really good Stout.

Adelphi Wine and Spirits, East Brunswick, NJ 50cl: pours dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma is roasted malt, licorice, and some fruitiness. If this was supposed to be hoppy in aroma, I would say my bottle is past its prime. Taste is lightly sweet. Some light smoke and roast in there. A dark fruitiness. Not bad, butnI am a bit underwhelmed.

Dark brown colour with copper highlights. Nice frothy-creamy, long-lasting beige cap with full lacing. Aromas of mild roasted malts with hints of vanilla, coffee and chocolate. The taste is hop over the roasted malts. Oily-watery mouthfeel and medium-bodied. Decent bitterness overall. Straight out stout with a little more hop than usual.

Bottle from the LCBO. Deep mahogany with a small tan head that quickly fades. Nose is espresso, dark chocolate, molasses, light licorice and some vanilla. Light sweet toffee leading to a moderate dark chocolate bitterness but not delivering on the promise of the nose. Mouth is medium- and oily with soft carbonation. I like the level of bitterness but this seems quite middle of the road.
