Chocolate Duchesse Cherry“ is as its name suggests a chocolate and cherry beer. This beer is an ode to Belgian know-how. We are known and recognized for our delicious beers and exquisite chocolates. We had the crazy idea of mixing the two and making them a unique product.
Brewed only with real Belgian cherries (no flavor enhancers or cherry extracts). The fruit comes from the region of Sint-Truiden in Limburg (Belgium).
The base beer of the “Chocolate Duchesse Cherry“ is a red-brown from West Flanders with mixed fermentation. This beer has a high fermentation base and is then matured in oak casks where it undergoes a second wild fermentation. The tannins in the casks (very large barrel used for the storage of great Bordeaux wines) give Chocolate Duchesse Cherry its sweet, fruity, refreshing and bittersweet taste.
Once the base beer is ready, the master brewer adds 20 Kg of "Kriek Gorsem" (Belgian sour cherries) per 100 liters to the beer. For 6 months, the beer macerates with the cherries. The cherries give a fresh and fruity taste to the beer which has a sweet and sour base. After, we add cocoa to the beer which will soften (without going overboard) the beer and give it a chocolate aftertaste. the total process take 24 months.

Bottle from Candia rd Crystal clear dark brick red with a small bubbly pink tinged head that dissipates. Huge tart cherry and lemons with a bit of almond and sweet maltiness. Faint chocolate is barely noticeable. Very tasty

Bottle. Clear bloodred body with a pink head. Aroma is dominated by confectionery chocolate and cherry. Taste like chocolate/cherry confectionery with the original Duchess in the background. OK, it’s called Chocolate and cherry, and definitively tasting like chocolate and cherry, but it’s also called Duchess so I was expected something more elegant. By all means, not bad but there are different ways to make adjunct beer, you may add additives too the beer or you may add beer to the additives. I prefer the first one and not the pastry way.

Bottle. Deep red with a light pink head that's soon a coat. Aroma of chocolate and cherries, some herbal and vinous notes behind. Seems overly simple. Sweet and tart with sour cherries and some vinegar, less chocolate than suggested by the aroma, herbal notes and some peppery oak at the end. Pretty good and very nicely balanced, but seems a bit confected for something banging on about authenticity.
