Chocolate Duchesse Cherry“ is as its name suggests a chocolate and cherry beer. This beer is an ode to Belgian know-how. We are known and recognized for our delicious beers and exquisite chocolates. We had the crazy idea of mixing the two and making them a unique product.

Brewed only with real Belgian cherries (no flavor enhancers or cherry extracts). The fruit comes from the region of Sint-Truiden in Limburg (Belgium).
The base beer of the “Chocolate Duchesse Cherry“ is a red-brown from West Flanders with mixed fermentation. This beer has a high fermentation base and is then matured in oak casks where it undergoes a second wild fermentation. The tannins in the casks (very large barrel used for the storage of great Bordeaux wines) give Chocolate Duchesse Cherry its sweet, fruity, refreshing and bittersweet taste.

Once the base beer is ready, the master brewer adds 20 Kg of "Kriek Gorsem" (Belgian sour cherries) per 100 liters to the beer. For 6 months, the beer macerates with the cherries. The cherries give a fresh and fruity taste to the beer which has a sweet and sour base. After, we add cocoa to the beer which will soften (without going overboard) the beer and give it a chocolate aftertaste. the total process take 24 months.

Lett tåkete rød farge med rosa skum. Lukter som det står. Lys sjokolade og kirsebær. Kirsebær helt klart mest framtredende både i lukt og smak. Tæps Fredrikstad.

0.33 l bottle from 'De Vuurtoren', best before June 2022. Almost clear, ruby with a thin, frothy, slowly diminishing, off-white head. Intensely sourish, vinous-fruity aroma of balsamic vinegar, oak, red wine, sour cherry and traces of chocolate. Minimally sweet, quite sour, fairly vinous-fruity taste of lots of balsamic vinegar, oak, red wine, redcurrant, a touch of chocolate and traces of glue, followed by a medium long, very tart, slightly woody finish. Thin to medium body, very astringent and gently effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. More or less as tasty as the regular Duchesse, would like to taste more chocolate. Glad that I could finally manage to get my hands on it, and it was no surprise that I did it in a rather random and remote liquor store in NL.

Tap. Dark red colour. Aroma: chocolate, cherry, caramel, a little vinegar from red wine, but overall sweetish. Taste: sweetish with sour cherry and vinegar, chocolate aroma, strange, not quite in balance.

Bottle at Ambasada. Huge thanks Mijardo! Shiny red body, some off white head. The chocolate natural aroma is evident at the start, and the cherries are definitely there, underneath. The taste, however, can get a bit weird. The cherry profile is there in force and very much pleasant, with the body clearly well carbonated. The chocolate aroma mixes very well with it, and enhances the beer in a good way. It can, however, interact weirdly here and there with acetic notes, mildly unpleasant and dry, but 95% of the time, it very much works and the chocolate-cherry balance is just lovely. I like it more than 90% of plain Duchesses I've had.

Poeh hey Ieniemienie. Koetjesreep opgelost in kersenlambic & de 40 Chupa-Chup’s. Doe maar gewoon, dat is zeg maar zonder tonkaboon. Romig chocoladezoet in zure kersenmeuk. Wil je dat wel. Ongewenst toetje. ☠️ Death to Pastry lambics ☠️ 😿 Niet te doen.
