Launched in 1927 by Colonel Jim Porter after three years of development, the 1960 merger of Newcastle Breweries with Scottish Brewers afforded the beer national distribution and sales peaked in the United Kingdom during the early 1970s. The brand underwent a resurgence in the late 1980s and early 1990s. By the late 1990s, the beer was the most widely distributed alcoholic product in the UK. Brewing moved in 2005 from Newcastle to Dunston, Tyne and Wear and in 2010 to John Smiths Brewery in Tadcaster.

Közepes hab, de sokáig kitart. A színe gyönyörű, bronzvörösbe hajló barna.

Red brown clear with little white head. Aroma of tanines and red apple peel. Also some lemon. Taste is more tanines and a little sourness. Sadly it is quite waterywith only some strange medium carbonation. No finish. Overall drinkable but nothing special.

For a popular beer, it is unique in that there are no other beers that really compare to it in flavour. It is well brewed, and clean tasting. I think it's unique flavour make it worthy of a high rating.

330ml bottle into shaker. Pours a burnt sugar caramel colour with two finger tan head. A few tiny bubbles. Faint malt nose. Flat mouthfeel with sweet malt ending, a little sourness to finish with. Inoffensive but you probably couldn’t drink more than a couple.

From a 330ml botte on 1/1/2016. Pours a clear dark amber with a small head. The aroma is light caramel malt.Taste wise, there’s lots of caramel and biscuity malt, and a very modest bitterness. Medium bodies with average carbonation. Just okay.

Albert Heyn. Meh. Ziet er vrolijker uit dan ’t smaakt. Koude thee met schoenzolen. Op zich niet smerig, maar wel vies. Backlog from 2015/03/28.

Nice easy drinkable brown ale.
Clear nutty color with a fine tan head. Ok lacing. Mild nutty and mostly a caramel malty dominated aroma. Medium body and an ok carbonation. Ok balance beween sweetness and bitterness. Mild bready, mild nutty and caramel malt dominated flavor.
