The Mc Chouffe is an unfiltered dark beer (such as scotch).

Full of character, Mc CHOUFFE delights lovers of dark beer all over the world. Its distinctive flavour, its dark ruby colour and its fine creamy head make it a unique beer. Mc CHOUFFE is also characterised by its spicy aniseed and liquorice flavours, superbly complemented by full-bodied caramel notes. Despite its robustness, Mc CHOUFFE is surprisingly smooth. It even reveals delicious fruity notes, especially pear, as well as a very slight hint of bitterness at the end of the palate. With its 8% alcohol content, like LA CHOUFFE, Mc CHOUFFE is appreciated with the same lightness as its big blond sister.

Bottle, 0.75l. Murky deep brown pour, slight amber hue. Two finger frothy off-white head, medium lasting. Good retention, sticky lacing on the glass as it goes down. Very nice on the nose, malty, nutty, dark fruits, hints of caramel and chocolate. Medium body, lively carbonation. Fizzy, prickly mouthfeel, average texture, moderately chewy. Bittersweet taste, mildly toasted. Aroma of toasted caramel, toffee, brown sugar. Dried fruits, yeast. Nutty, bready, hints of chocolate. Lingering alcohol in the background, warming. Medium lasting finish, dry, slightly liquory. Tasty.

More difficult to find this beer than expected but my son purchased a four pack for me at a Total Wine in Houston so I finally get my chance. I'm pulling out the Teku glass on this sampling. Seems like the thing to do. Along with some 80's alternative in the background. It pours the color of coca-cola and is headed by a strong, taupe foam. The nose is pleasant also, multi-grain bread, dark fruit and malt. Lift the glass for a taste, ah, nice. Not-so-sweet candied fruit, grain, raisins, dates, some yeastiness and maltiness and a surprising bitterness at the finish. Chewy, it is all there. Definitely worth the wait for this fan of Belgian beers.

Deep dark red to light brown. Quite clear (hazier on second pour). Nice off-white head: quite dense, excellent persistence and beatiful lacing. Good intensity in a rather simple but clean aroma: caramel, brown sugar, light dark/dried fruitiness. Taste notes as per aroma, again rather simple but clean. Sweet entrypoint, balanced, quite dry finish (sugar lingers a bit, but in a nice/clean way). Medium to dense bodied with average carbonation, resulting in a semi-full, slightly warming mouthfeel. Overall: perhaps nothing special, but well crafted.

Rocky light brown head left a creamy cover on a dark oak coloured still body. Sweet, malt & dried fruit aroma. Medium bodied, well carbonated with a clean dry back. Malt, demerara, liquorice, under ripe berry & caramel tastes & with a bitter tangy finish. Improves as it warms up - Good one

0.33 l bottle at Le petit Belge, Zagreb. Dark brown, reddish tint, lasting creamy beige head. First impression is metallic, spicy and slightly harsh phenolic, then dried fruit and rye bread take over, cocoa touch, alcohol and finally dark cherry. Fruity character, dried fruit, dark bread, spices. Sweet. Smooth, strong, medium body, moderate carbonation, moderately lasting finish. Properly done.
