76% Barley Wine style beers, 19% Stout and 5% Imperial IPA. XV introduces our new blonde barley wine Helldorado with flavors of lavender honey liqueur. DDBA delivers its signature American toasted oak, English caramel toffee and light leather nuances. 2010 vintage Stickee Monkee folds in brown sugar, maple, cinnamon, ginger and ripe figs. Parabola brings the familiar flavors of roasted dark cocoa, and chocolate covered cherries. Velvet Merkin carries silky milk chocolate, toasted coconut and creamy textures. Good Foot and Bravo add assertive barley wine warmth and lush barrel derived vanilla bean notes. The game changer this year is the addition of Double Jack to the blend. At just 5% its massive dry hop character brings citrus zest, tangerine and mango aromas making this a completely new beer.

Bottle on the train to Edinburgh thanks to an IP trade with George - 08/12/12. Hazed chestnut brown with a thin tan head that dissipates and leaves a film and edgeing. Nose is treacle toffee, dark sugars, touch of wood, dark fruits, coconut, a little booze. Taste comprises toffee, caramel, dark malts, liqourice, sweet sugars, touch of coconut. Full bodied, smooth, fine carbonation, warming alcohol in the finish. Decent.

Bottle, 22oz. It pours a clear, dark amber to brown body under a small, light beige head. It’s quite alcoholic and toffee-ish on the nose, with pine cones, vanilla and some resiny hints. Notes of chocolate too. It’s quite hard on the carbonation, very warming and full-bodied. Toffee, vanilla and some chocolate in the flavor, with a nice bitterness chiming in towards the end. Well, it’s nice indeed, but it’s way too warming, and also a bit heavy on the carbonation. I like it indeed, but I don’t think I’ll miss it. 121109

Bomber courtesy of Ekstedt. Pours clear dark amber with a small brownish beige head that doesn’t leave much trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is sweet and malty with sweet dark bread, caraway, liquorice root, bourbon, vanilla fudge, orange peal, alcohol, prunes, resinous wood, grapefruit rinds and hints of grass. Taste is sweet, slightly bitter and malty with sweet dark bread, coconut, bourbon, vanilla fudge, alcohol, resinous wood, orange peal, lemon grass, pine, grapefruit rinds, freshly cut grass and sweet liquorice fudge. Mouthfeel is very round, tiny sticky sweet, smooth and medium to full bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, bitter and malty with toasted malts, biscuits, caramel, golden syrup, coconut, charred wood and bourbon. Very tasty.

Got a 22 oz. bottle in a trade with BOLTZ7555, thanks Dude! Beer looks deep brown the lots of ruby tints when held up to the light. Not much in the way of head or lace. Aromas of bourbon, chocolate, vanilla, oak and a large amount of booze. Chocolate stout proportion is way low, with the DIPA showing up in the finish. However, for the most part it shows the Barley Wine first and foremost. The DIPA does give it a nice citrus zest and adds something totally different. The FW commercial DESCRIPTION is spot on! This is damn nice and really tasty.Similar to a fine cognac. Could be truly nice to revisit if you have more than one bottle.
