Dark black - brown beer, good pale tan head. Palate is light and soft with fine carbonation. Mild minerals. Creamy dark malt with nice touches of roast and mild bitterness. Mellow medium smoke. A little citrus hop in the smooth dry finish. Pretty good, just wished they had hopped this up and it could have been outstanding!

330ml bottle from Ales by Mail

Pours dark brown, almost black with a small white head. Aroma of roasted malts, nuts, grassy hops, ripe fruits, hints of smoke, ash and leather. Taste is malty, nutty, slightly roasty and hoppy with hints of smoke and leather. Finish is grainy, malty and nutty with some roastiness and grassy notes. Quite mildly smoked porter with a nice hop profile.

Cask at the Southampton Arms, London on 2nd May 2013. Deep brown with thin tan ring of foam and initial lacing. Richly malty aroma. Deliciously roasty and smoky liquid with nuttiness. All flavours sit well together and and finish builds in pungency and bitterness. Zingy with plenty of body. 7-4-9-4-16>>4/5 Re-rating June 2015. Cask at the Southampton Arms on 30th June 2015. Deep ruby with almost no head or lacing. Roasty, spicy aroma with some delicate smoke. Roasty in-mouth with berry fruits and citrus in harmony, and a smoky, fruity finish. Medium-bodied with a smooth, slightly oily mouthfeel. 7-3-8-4-15>>3.7/5

330ml bottle. Hazy dark brown colour with a red glow, average to huge, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, tan head. Smoky aroma, some fruit and honey notes. Taste is initially smoky, later with minimally sweet notes of red fruit, a touch of honey, in the end dry hoppy and more smoky again. Very nice.

Bottle from The Bottle Shop Canterbury drunk at home. Black very dark beer with thick dark beige head. Smoked cheese, smoked sausage aroma. more smoked cheese. Yep a decent smoked cheese flavoured beer. Excellent condition. Excellent aroma and flavour. Finish is a touch too modern for me with too many hops and a little too bitter. I want my smoked beers to be a little more malty balanced on the finish. But if you like your smoked beers, this is pretty damn decent. Condition is amazing.

Bottle at the John=Jim Den Haag tasting, Den Haag. Bought at Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Poured a dark mahogany with a thin bubbly tan head. The aroma is peaty, smoky and earthy. The flavour is medium to strong bitter, smoky, hoppy with lots of dry spice on the palate. A super beer. I can’t wait for more from this brewery.
