A timeless classic. We have been brewing Ottakringer Helles ever since the brewery was established. It has been in a constant state of change and has developed its taste with time: The best hops and malt, and mild spring water from our in-house brewery well provide an even balance between a light malt aroma with fruity notes and pleasant bitterness. The straw colour and fresh yeast aroma are trademarks of this beer.

Bottle, a gift from my parents. Extremely sweet caramel aroma, with a slightly sour streak. Bright gold. Bubbly. Thin white head. Sweet. Gets sweeter. Not quite sickly sweet though. Some hints of bitterness fluttering around. Look light bodied. Thin. The soft carbonation does add to the palate. Abrupt finish. Drinkable but insubstantial. Verging on a soft drink.

Helder geel bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is mooi bitter hoppig en licht fris zuur met iets van citrus en ananas. Beter dan verwacht bier.

(Bottle, 0.5 l, at an ÖBB train restaurant, 20170529) The beer poured golden and clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had grass and sweetness. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were sweetness, grass, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet and bitter. A too sweet brew with mild hop bite.

Can, 0.5l. Clear yellow pour with two finger soapy white head. Quickly diminishing, not much of a retention to speak of. Sweet on the nose, quite malty and grainy. Thin to medium body. Average carbonation, soft and smooth on the tongue. Taste is mostly sweet with strong malty character, some faint bitterness coming through in the aftertaste. Aroma pretty much as expected, malts, grains, faint corn notes, faint acidity. Some earthy hops. Quite mild taste overall but still ok for what it is. Refreshing and easy drinking. Nothing extraordinary but ok nonetheless.

Clear golden with little white head. Aroma is hops, vegetable, uncanny unfresh malt, tobacco. Taste is bad malty sweetness with the normal lager stuff. So uncanny it is not drinkable. Bah.
