16 ounce can into tulip glass, best before 11/3/2016. Pours lightly hazy deep orange/copper color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, mango, passion fruit, lemon/orange peel, pine, caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, mango, passion fruit, lemon/orange peel, pine, caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, mango, passion fruit, lemon/orange rind, pine, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance and minimal lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderate dryness from bitterness, that increases through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth and moderate sticky/resinous/creamy balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent IPA! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical/pine hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. This still tasted really fresh to me for being 6 months old, assuming that the dating is one year out. A very enjoyable offering.

On tap at Craft Room, Zagreb. Poured a misty reddish amber body with a lasting off white head. Creamy aroma, peach, herbal notes, caramel, toast. Taste... citric, peachy notes, juicy, tasty, some notes of orange too. Medium herbal bitterness. Enjoyable, juicy IPA, the kind I might actually love the most. Not the best beer like that, perhaps, but world class and I’d go for it again.

Classic Mikkeller IPA brewed at the Proef in Belgium, 33 cl bottle, in the regular (non-gluten free) version. Irregular, medium sized, yellowish white, well retaining head, deep and warm orange blonde colour with even a light reddish hue (and therefore unsurprisingly turning deep amber with deposit), completely cloudy from the start. Aroma has a lot of ’old hop’ dankness (stale sweat, even urine) - in fact, a tad too much of it to be as appealing as it could have been; apart from that, I get notes of grapefruit, dried lemon peel, fried egg, sweet curry, pine needles, peach, baker’s yeast, papaja, overripe pineapple, withering spring flowers, damp forest floor even, faint sweet strawberry piercing through. Sweetish and sourish fruitiness in the mouth, papaja, gooseberry, pineapple, pomelo with some grapefruity bitterness already popping up right from the start, with a slight salty edge to it; carbo remains soft and fit for the style, mouthfeel is rounded, supple, slim and a bit oily. Soft, somewhat grainy and lightly bready malt body provides structure enough and balances well with the hop profile, which, as said, can be felt from the start and only grows in intensity towards the end, ensuring a deeply, tonic-water and grapefruit-like, almost completely drying, resinous bittering effect in the finish, yielding lots of piney and dried citrus peel-like retronasal aromas. The earthy effect of these ’older’ hops (at least so it seems) is further reinforced with a strong yeastiness, which is easily identified not just by an earthy flavor and mouthfeel, but also by peach- and gooseberry-like ester aromas still hanging around at the back. I am all for recognizing a ’Belgian IPA’ category here and this one seems to qualify: the hops are clearly (and strongly) of New World signature, but the yeastiness and esteriness is a very Belgian feature. In this respect, this is a tasteful and quaffable IPA for sure, but I cannot help feeling more ’cleansiness’ in its yeast profile would make this - apart from a lot more ’American’ - a lot better... Still, appetizing, nicely drying and bittering IPA, I enjoyed it.

Pours a very hazy, darker shade of orange-amber color, topped with a very generous off-white head. Pretty lasting as well. Very nice and intense fruity aroma - citruses and some sweet fruits, grapefruit, peach and a bit of lichi. Starts a bit on the sweet side with moderate hoppy bitterness developing later on. A tad soury in the finish. Gentle but very lasting bittery aftertaste. Medium light and very nice.

0,33 l bottle from Kristall-König. Thanks a lot! Murky brwon in the glass, one finger light beige foamy head. Strong hopy with citrus on the nose. Taste is also strong hopy, citrus and pale malt in the background but present. Long lasting bitterness in the aftertaste. Heavy stuff.
