Pannepøt (read Pannepeut) is a beer specially brewed and named as a wink to the Danish market presented at the Danish beer festival ’Københavnske Øldage 2006’ exclusively at Ølbutikkens stand. It is produced to express the brewers gratitude to all the Danish beer amateurs that drink their products daily. Pannepøt has later been available on draught and bottles at bars and shops in Belgium & Denmark. Since winter 2006, this beer’s popularity kept growing in Belgium at such a level that the production today equals Pannepot.

2006 vintage bottle shared by badnewsbeers. Ruddy sediment-laden orange-brown body, thin cream head. Nose of toffee and brown sugar, delicate and sweet with hints of rubber cement. Body reminiscent of an earthy apple cider, with spice, toffee, and candi sugar, balanced by leafy bitterness and hints of alcohol. This bottle held up nicely. That said, after my initial joy trying Pannepot for the first time, I have not been blown away by the beer or its siblings since then.

(bottle, 33cl, as Panepeut, vintage 2007) Hazy, dark brown coloured floaty-laden hue with a beige mid-sized foamy head. Rich and toasted malty aroma with notes of caramel, dried fruits, ginger-spices and a distinctively vinous sherry-like touch. Sweet and roasty bitter flavour, almost full bodied with a pleasantly carbonated mouthfeel. Toast-malty, caramely and fruity taste, again with noble vinous accents; sweet-bitter toasty and slightly fruity finish with a well-hidden alcoholic note that warms from the background. Very pleasant. 11.X.11

2009 Dark beer, reddish hue. Off-white head, rather thin but staying well. Aroma sweet, dried dark fruits and liquorice. Flavour quite sweet, malty, rather alcoholic. Liquorice and dried fruits come back. Caramel. Not bad, but could use some more balance.

Bottle bought in bottle shop in Wollestraat in Brugge. A deep brown pour with a healthy beige head. Fruity, sweet aroma. Tastes sweet, caramel, mature plums, banana, sweet, sour, fruity. This one had a rather musty thing going on. Clearly a decent ale but not as good as the usual Pannepot IMO.

Ruby red to brown colour. Smells fruity, soapy alcohol and sweet. Tastes like sugar water, too sweet for me. Dull mouthfeel.

2007 bottle: Aroma is a fantastic amalgamation of honey, yeasty walnut, and banana creme, a sublime baklava and moonpie treat. Opaque brown, thin yellow head. Drinks warm, warmer than even the 10% on the label. Mouthfeel is smooth and body is relatively full. Flavor is sweet cherries and stewed apples, decidedly less complex than the aroma, which was very inviting. Candi is present. Finishes with twigs. Good balance, but less complex than I hoped. If only it tasted as good as it smells, I’d probably have two perfect ratings, and both would be from De Struise. Outstanding beer, nonetheless.
