Hertog Jan Karakter is a true Dutch ale, made from the special Hertog Jan malts. Hertog Jan malts, a carefully selected prestige malt, consists of four different malts. This gives the beer a fruity taste with adult hits of bitter. Besides this, Hertog Jan Karakter has the full and warm color of copper.

Malzig-fruchtiger, darunter klebrig-süßer Geruch. Der erste Schluck kommt dann aber deutlich milder daher, als der Geruch erahnen lässt. Herber, nur leicht malziger Antrunk mit fruchtigem, aber nicht weiter geführten Ansatz. Würzig-herber Mittelteil, der sich im Nachgeschmack vorführt. Süßer Abgang. Könnte fülliger sein. Big offwhite head over darkish red body. Sweet, fruity banana aroma with whiffs of sour licorice. Sweet, soft banana taste, followed by spicy licorice and some plum. Somewhat watery mouthfeel. Licorice, toffeeish aftertaste with hints of metal. Okay. Nothing too good or interesting. Has promise, but is too watery and weak to really make good on the promise of the aroma. (0.33l bottle.)

Bottle. Peppery aroma with some spicy yeast notes. Dark reddish copper colour, big stable rocky head leaving lace. Very malty and peppery flavour with some warming alcohol touch. The yeast is noticably phenolic. They should have gotten more out of a beer with this strength.

(bottle) Clear red-brown colour with a mid-sized foamy, slightly off-white head. Dense sweet malty aroma with a touch of caramel, quite vinous when it warms up. Sweet flavour, medium body. Initially sweet malty taste, slightly toasty and caramelly, quite thin, malty and light fruity finish with notes of chestnuts.

(Bottle 30 cl) Beautiful, dark amber colour, slightly hazy with a small, off-white head. Malty, sherry-like nose. Almost vinuous - desert wine - with lots of caramel, roasted malt, candy sugar and perhaps also some dried fruit. More sweetness than bitterness in the palate. Lovely. 280705
