A warm chestnut brown with red glints and a cream-beige head. The abbey yeast in combination with the rye, wheat, and roasted malts generates a complex bouquet of dark dried fruits: plums, dates, rum raisins, and a hint of hazelnut. The drink is dry and elegant and leaves behind a wine-like impression. The alcohol content of 8.5 VOL% is pleasurably integrated.

Bottle from an Albert Heijn in Ghent. Pours hazy brown with a lasting, frothy, off-white head. Metallic smell. The aroma contains roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate, some (overripe) dark fruits (raisin), yeast and basement aromas, some banana. It tastes medium sweet, light roasted bitter and very light raisin-like sour. Slightly dry and alcoholic finish. Medium body, slick/oily texture, lively carbonation (too much). A likeable, fruity Dubbel with enough depth in taste; too bad the palate was off-balance.

Bottled. Amber-brown body with an off white head. Aroma... caramel, pear, almond, soft and sweet maltiness. Not bad at all, great even. Taste... dark bread dominates, sweetish and ful, almond again, light banana and glue, solid maltiness really and solid esters. Prickly carbonation, dry finish. Nice beer really, not a world class dubbel perhaps, but would be above average even in Belgium.

Murky brown colour with lasting head. Full bodied and smooth. Malt sweetness and perhaps a touch of aniseed in the background.
