A warm chestnut brown with red glints and a cream-beige head. The abbey yeast in combination with the rye, wheat, and roasted malts generates a complex bouquet of dark dried fruits: plums, dates, rum raisins, and a hint of hazelnut. The drink is dry and elegant and leaves behind a wine-like impression. The alcohol content of 8.5 VOL% is pleasurably integrated.

Bottle. Brown color. Aroma of caramel, yeast, hazelnut, toffee and dates. Taste has sweet yeast, caramel, sugar, dates and some nuts. Not bad actually.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours an almost clear nutty brown with this amazingly creamy and lacing deliate head. Nose has yeast and overripe fruits, sweetness. Sweet, rich body, friendly phenols, dark, dried ruits, noble rot. Fine example of the style and another fine Insel brew. 020518

In der Nase starker Malzcharakter, auch Trauben. Im Trunk Malz, Weinbrand, Trauben. Gut trinkbar, dafür leidet etwas die Geschmackstiefe. Im Nachgang aber angenehm holzig.

Huge, very dense & fine pale whipped cream head, very stable over foxy amber to acajou beer. Bread, chestnut, sweet brown bread; smells very dark Bock-like. Sweet, but a bit wry, woody, dry bread, health mix, but with maltsugar, marzipan. Bit mushy, slick, not very carbonated actually, looks like all the CO² knocked out at pouring. More Dunkler Bock than Dubbel, lacking a bit of character. 6/4/7/3/13

Hazy deep amber colour, tall beige head, good retention, fair lacing. Aroma toasted malts, caramel, light dark fruitsur light heavy sweet and light to medium bitter, toasted malts, toffee, brown sugar, touch of chocolate, metallic notes. Sweetbitter finish, malty, burnt carame. Decent, not a fully convincing dubbel.

Bottle at home. Brown cloudy color, beige head. Nice taste, medium body. I expected some more from this, since the abv.

Bottle. Cloudy chestnut, brown creamy lace. Dry, spicy, mineralic unclean nose. Phenolic, salt/mineral, spice, roast, horrible phenolic on the palate, unclean. Not a proper Dubbel.
