5l-mini cask. Light amber-brown colour, slightly hazy, large and very creamy beige head. Aroma of smoke. Malty, slightly sweet and very hoppy in the finish. Pleasanlty smokey, especially in the aftertaste. Well-balanced beer with medium carbonation. Very good!

Bottled, major thanks to Lach (mullet) for bringing these to me from Bavaria.
Off-white, lightly brown head (rocky, frothy but fastly diminishing). Clear, amber body. Aroma of smoke, wood, ashes, charcoal, smoked ham, citrus, malts (lightly), some soapiness, ... Heavily bitter, lightly sweet flavour with some saltiness (which is not annoying). Very nice complexity of sweet malts combined with smoke. Extremely well balanced. Those Germans do know how to brew decent beer!

(Draught, unfiltered, by gravity at Akkurat, Stockholm, 26 Sep 2007) Dark brown colour with ruby notes, frothy pale brown head. Malty, slightly spicy nose with smokey notes (like smoked ham). Malty, slightly smokey taste with chocolate and toffee, turning into a finish with generous amounts of spicy hops. Very nice balance between smoke, malt and hops. Good complexity, with the elements mingling well together. Lovely stuff.

Bottle bought at 2006 St Albans beer festival. Dark chestnut colour with a decent beige head. Aroma had hints of smoked beechwood with some malt. Smoked flavour kept under control allowing bitterness to come through. A slightly sweet finish. A very easy to drink Rauchbier.

(bottle, bought at the brewery´s Ausgabestelle) Clear reddish amber colour with a frothy beige head turning into a small creamy layer. Slightly dusty beechwoody nose. Light bitter flavour, medium body, smooth, slightly creamy mouthfeel with a soft carbonation. Initial earthy taste of dark malt with beechwood smoke, light notes of smoked meat; moderately bitter, nutty and smoky finish with the alcohol well hidden. Balanced and tasty brew.

On tap at Battersea Beer Festival 2006. Chestnut colour with lasting off white head. Smokey bacon aroma. Good in mouth, quite smooth. Bit spicey, but a lovely smokey flavour. Good finish and a refreshing change from all of those bitters, bitters, bitters..... 4/5 On tap at Hummel it’s so easy drinking. Smoke is there but light. The dry bitter smoke finish excites me no end. For me the perfect rauch.

[Draft at GBBF 2005] A brown beer with a thin brown head. The aroma is sweet and very smoked with notes of rope. The flavor is also sweet and quite smoked - reminds me of smoked heering and rope. Nice one.
