Seepferd

Sour ale by this German brewery specializing in mimicking often anything but German beer styles; sold through the Albert Heijn supermarket chain in the Low Countries but only recently so, though apparently the beer itself has been in existence for three years now. Thanks to Craftmember for sharing. Mousy, egg-white, medium thick, stable head lacing in shreds over a lightly hazed, deep orange-tinged peach blonde beer. Aroma of green plums, Granny Smith apple peel, lemon candy, lime zest, fresh dill, unripe grapes, sourdough, cucumber, margarine. Fruity onset, tart with sour grape and green apple aspects, quite crisp with a sweeter touch of stewed rhubarb or gooseberry, quite lively carbonated; supple bready malt body, lightly sweetish 'in se' but dried by a gentle, yet persisting sourness, ending with lingering green apple, lime and grape aspects (even a subjective impression of dry cider or very dry white wine) with some lingering malty breadiness. Remains very well-balanced, elegant and restrained for a sour ale, but it does tick all the boxes of a modern U.S. style blonde sour, albeit in a generic and hardly inspired kind of way (as usual with these Insel beers); nevertheless, for coming from this particular brewery and for being widely available through a supermarket chain, this is far from bad - a pleasant surprise, even.

Aroma is citrusy, lime and tart. Taste is lime, lemon peel, soft tart and sea salt. Soft salty finish. Sour. A bit too agressive aftertaste. Next one please!

Bottle. Amber color. Metal, caramel and apple in the aroma. Sweetish, light sour dry flavor. Apple and hints of caramel. Pleasant, not too much character, but a nice summer beer.

Appearance: Orange, slight haze. Some off-white head. Aroma: Some sourness, tart fruits. Taste: Slightly sour, but with some fruity sweetness. Bought: Shared by BW - thanks!, 330 ml Info: 22/5-2019, BB ??/??-????

01-06-19 // taster at Berliner Weisse Gipfel. Clearish darker orange. Malzig säuerlich. Solid.

Bottle 33 cl. Pours golden with a slight haze and a dense and very creamy, white head. Nose, again slightly lactic tart, fruity, yeasty, minerally. Light in body, very soft on the palate, velvety, almost champagne-like - only the bubbles are much smaller. Somewhere between a dry white wine and a Cider. Dry, with no real bitterness. Quite sophisticated. 280119

Bottle from Luvians St Andrews. Hazy deep golden colour with a white head. Aroma blackberry and hints of gooseberry. Slightly tart taste. Fresh body.
