Mama's Little Yella Pils - Our upcoming new canned good is a small-batch version of the beer that made Pilsen, Czechoslovakia famous. Mama's is made with hearty amounts of pale malt, German specialty malts, and a blend of traditional (Saaz) and 21st century Bavarian hops. Our first canned lager, it's also fermented at cool temperatures with a German yeast.
This tasteful reality Czech is the perfect antidote for the watered-down versions of pilsner clogging Americaâ's shelves. And Mama's gentle hopping (about 33 IBUs) and low ABV (just 4.7%) mean we're finally honoring consumer requests for a delicious but less-challenging beer. (Hey, we like a good low-dose session beer, too.) Look for our Gold Metal Winner on US shelves in March.
Sadly, the Feds rejected our Take Two and Call Us in the Morning line on the can.

Can. Lemon and malt aroma. Hazy yellow with a moderate white head. Sweet grainy malt flavor with a light grassy hops finish. Light watery body.

On tap at the River rd Tavern. Came to the table in a shaker pint, a pale straw yellow color without much of a head. Smells of pilsen malt and earthy spicy hops. It smells like a macro lager with a bit more hops added. The taste is pretty straightforward, honey like sweet pilsen malt with earthy spicy hops. Medium to thin body with an ample level of carbonation and a sweet tart kind of mouthfeel going on. This is a decent brew, but really nothing extraordinary. I would drink this before I drank a bud, but if there was anything else craft I would probably choose that first.

Clear golden color, small white head. Wet paper, light citrus in the nose. Light-bodied with crisp carbonation. Sweet malty with German type hoppyness. Light fruity citrus, some grassy notes. Decent but not very interesting pils.

Sample @ SBWF 2011. Im not very impressed by this one. It sure is refreshing with its notes of melon and pineapple. What I dont like is the balance, which makes the hops taste a little too much and - in this context - quite strange.

Tap @ Old Chicagos Old Town Foco. Clear, golden yellow appearance with an off white head. Pretty mild, nice, light pils malty, mild noble hoppy nose. Crisp, sweet pils malty, slightly spicy, floral, noble hoppy flavor. Floral hoppy aftertaste. Well done session lager.

Can: Poured a dark yellow color lager with a nice foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of sweet cereal notes with light dry crisp hops is interesting. Taste is a mix between some sweet cereal notes with some very subtle dry hops at the end. Body is quite full for style with good carbonation. Not bad overall though a again a bit too sweet for what I look for in this style.
