Strongest Than Ever

Bottle from Biergenot, BB End 2017, large sample. Clear copper color, short lasting frothy off-white head. Aroma of lots of caramel, raisin, slight hay, high alcohol, spicy yeast, orange, madeira. Medium sweet in taste, bit bitter, lots of grapes coming in now, loads of raisins, big madeira. A bit homebrewey actually, but I was in for a glass of madeira, so extra points for that.

A beautiful, red beer with a medium and blond head. The nose has fruits, sweetness of strawberries, herbs and some alcohol. Taste has berries and herbs. Alcohol in the end and it’s warming the throat. Full bodied, not too heavy. Berry, too simple and booze.

Bottle at home, Dark orange beer with a small head, aroma is citrus, malt, some yeast, Taste is the same, some fruit, some caramel. Not bad but not great,

Bottle from tderoeck. Thanks Tim - Hazy brown colour. Aroma is heavy on bread dough and yeast. Also very malty with some woody dryness. Texture is smooth. It’s sweet and has a deep, complex maltiness. Some caramel and brown sugar sweetness and dried sweet dark fruits too.

Clear deep red - amber beer, decent pale cream colour head. Palate is airy and semi dry. Fine carbonation. Sweet malts, some toffee. Warming brandy tones. Sweet dried fruits. Light dry finish. Warming afterglow. Drinkable but very sweet. 6.1

11 years later. Yes still quite the sweet barleywine. Good toffee and caramel and cream. Touch of ripe fruits. Whisper of brandy soaked biscuits. Sweet but smooth and pretty drinkable.

Nice creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly fruity, sugar, dried fruits, strawberries, grass, sap, leafs, caramel malts. Taste is sweet fruity, dried fruits, sugar, strawberries, sap, leafs, grass, alcohol, caramel malts. Medium bitterness, slightly sweet syrupy mouthfeel. Fair enoug, a bit too sweet.

Medium, cream-coloured head, fine & dense, over cloudy reddish-brown beer. Serious yeastload at the end of the bottle. Alcohol, liqueur, preserved orange, some fresh herbs. Smells already heavy... Alcohol in force; sweet-liqueurish with a certain depth. Raisins, preserved plums, preserved oranges on alcohol, dried figs, overripe banana (especially in the finish). There’s an awfull lot of sweetness, syrupy it is, but it avoids cloying. Ferocious alcoholheat, even more than 15% would warrant; Viscously slick, near chewy; yet well-carbonated; Well, I certainly like it; I was tempted to substract a point for the utterly silly name - I won’t even start on the grammatical! - but I refrained. Jeez, all the same.

13/XII/13 - 33cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent) @ Klaas' place, blind tasting for selection "Beer of the Month", Gentse Biervereniging - BB: n/a (2013-1143)

Little cloudy dark amber beer, creamy off-white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: very sugary, sweet, marzipan, some orange peel, alcohol, a bit dirty. MF: soft carbon, full body. Taste: sweet, sugary, alcohol, some banana, dried fruits, caramel, more sugar. Aftertaste: very sugary, overripe banana, alcohol numbing tongue and throat, caramel, more sugar, something off. Well, the contest for highest alc % still seems to be fought, somewhere close to the Venetian coast. But as we all know, there's no winners in this contest.
