From backlog. Bottle drunk upon release back in 2013 or so.
Dark, black, clear. Small, dark beige head, good retention.
Big and hoppy with rich malts and not too overdone on the dark malts. Lots of plastery, mineral-rich yeast and a lingering chocolate and PNW-like character redolent of the real thing. Clean, no booze.
Sweet, malty but with Belgian esters and phenols drying things nicely towards the end. Mineral and plaster with light cocoa dusting and a reasonable, but not overdone hoppiness.

Aroma of sightly roasted malt, hint of tropical fruit, caramel, grapefruit, some coffee and chocolate, hops. Flavour is moderate sweet with a moderate bitter finish. Not the most extreme Black IPA, but definitely a nice beer.

Bottle from Beer Planet. Dark chocolate brown with a golden creamy head. Aroma is roasty, chocolate, creamy, vanilla, little bit of bitterness, touch of hops and a bit of booze. Taste is nice and creamy, not so much bitterness. Touch of citrus. Dark and roasty, but bit of sweetness too. Very nice black IPA, definitely more roasty than bitter, lovely. Very smooth. --- Beer merged from original tick of Black in Japan on 09 Sep 2019 at 16:06 - Score: Appearance - 8 | Aroma - 9 | Flavor - 9 | Texture - 8 | Overall - 8. Bottle. ark brown, cloudy, fine head. Nose of chocolate, minerals, a bit of citrus. Chocolate flavor, spicy and dry, dirty, earthy hops. Quite nice, but I guess it is past its prime.

Bottle. A dense, two-finger dark beige head forms over a dark reddish brown body. The aroma has a faint Belgian touch I think, with roasted malts, licorice notes and some prunes. Some dark sugar too. It’s full-bodied and pleasantly carbonated, quite dry. Roasted malts, licorice, dried fruits and some yeast in the flavor, along with a nice bitterness. Lasting finish. Not your average Black IPA, but it’s nice anyway. 150524

Bottle 330ml @ Geokkjer
Pours dark reddish brown with a off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, caramel, citrus, grape and peach. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter with a long caramel, chocolate, citrus and grape finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. Would love to try this fresh..
