A Rich Dark Porter brewed with 10 different malts giving a sweet roast richness that is balanced with just enough hop character. This ale has a surprising drinkability for it’s colour and abv. Don’t let the sumptuous roast malt fool you, this porter is seriously potent & has the potential to take you to another place..

330ml bottle. Dark brown colour with average, frothy to creamy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Dark malty aroma with hints of chocolate and dark fruit. Taste is minimally sweet dark malty, notes of dark fruit, blueberry, blackcurrant, hints of dark chocolate, dry, roasty finish; relatively lively carbonation. Good.

Bottle. Nose is lactose, malt and back of the cupboard. Not as strong as I was expecting. Taste, is malty, with a lovely hazelnut/coffee taste to the fore, leading to a smooth, bitter, nutty finish. The taste is undercut with vanilla and the faintest hint of dark cocoa. For a porter, it is surprisingly lacking in sweetness, but given the current fashion for high strength high sugar beers I found this a really welcome change. Overall I really enjoyed this beer, it is not the most complex. but does what intends superbly. The bitter finish is what makes this a good beer. SWB is rapidly becoming a favorite brewer.

Cask at Euston Tap with Sarah. Pours a clear dark brown with a small tan head that starts and remains at the edges. Aroma has a good amount of roasted malts with dark bread and a hint of coffee. Flavor starts with roasted malt and some bitter chocolate with a bit of dryness in the finish.

28th April 2012: half pint, cask (Craft, London). Dark body, black as black with a good full tan coloured head. No lacing though as the beer level sank. Roasted malts rule the roost in this beer, both in the nose and the taste: coffee, dark chocolate, smoked/burnt hazel nuts and wood, hints of vanilla could also be found in the aroma and in the flavours once I started drinking it. Found it a little dry and unsweetened for my palate, but certainly drinkable.

Bottle from Nina’s Mini Market. Dark brown body with a large tan head. Nice lacing. Complex aroma of liquorice, dirt, orange, rum, tobacco and dark chocolate. The flavour is, unsurprisingly, very malty, but there’s a faint tangy berry flavour that verges on sour. Slight smoky bacon flavour. Dry and bitter. Medium body with a sticky mouthfeel. Light carbonation. The flavour doesn’t quite live up to the complex aroma but this is still a very Porter.

Cask@Reading Beer Festival 2012. Very dark brown, close to black, with a beigeish brown head, that leaves some lace. Aroma is roasted malts, liquorice, caramel, chocolate and some old coffee. Flavour is quite similar with some ashy and wet burnt wooden notes. Lovely.
