Like Hops? You’ll like this fire-hued beer. This is the beer I have always dreamed of making. This is the beer that would come to mind while spending the last two years tearing down walls, hanging sheetrock, moving kegs, power washing the ceilings, arguing with various agencies, and cutting the water main. Without Golden Promise malt, made by family-owned Simpsons Malt, Furious would just be pissed offed. From Scotland, this malt is still produced in the tradition of turning over the barley by hand, resulting in a malt that is unsurpassed in its quality. Golden Promise is also used extensively by premium whisky distilleries such as The Macallan. This malt provides the backbone for the intense hop character. Four American hop varieties are used at a rate of over three pounds per barrel. The result is a rich malt sweetness infused with bright hop flavor and aroma from beginning to end. Oh yeah, it’s about 6% alcohol and around 100 IBUs.

Purchased at West Lakeview Liquors in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at home during a frustrating Saturday night. I’m the opposite of frustrated though that Surly is now available in Chicago, which rules! This is a top of the line IPA. Appearance is a dark but slightly clear gold with a thin white head that lightly laces to the glass. Aroma is a huge mixture of citrus and grassy hops, definite tropical fruit notes. Taste is big in hops but surprisingly crisp and smooth to drink, a very enjoyable IPA which is quite rare. Looking forward to having this readily available within the market!

Can shared at CBC Clerkenwell, London during the Jimmy G. Tasting. Thanks to Ryan for this can. Pours amber-gold with a creamy, off-white head. Nose of lightly dried pine and pithy grapefruit. Medium sweet flavor with dry, toasty bread malts, grapefruit, more pine. Medium bodied with average, lightly creamy carbonation. Moderately resinous to finish with dry bread and further pine and grapefruit. Solid.

Can thanks to Ryan. It pours clear amber with a thick beige head. The nose is toast, resinous, pine, pissy hops, grapefruit and lime. The taste is pine, earth, toast, resin, grapefruit, pithy tangerine oily hop, grass and light pepper with a juicy, bitter finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Crisp, fresh and utterly drinkable. Nice.

On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2013. This is a clear wood-brown one with a medium sized light beige top. It has a fruity yeasty nose this. Some frozen strawberries, lots of melon zest. It's above average on the carbonation and it's almost creamy in the mouth. Well hopped alright, did not smell like it should be all that bitter but it most definitely has tons of pine and pine cones bitterness A little bit tropical as well with pineapple and mango. Utterly a tasty one. 04.05.2013

Can - Earthy pine and caramel. Clear copper with a rich off white head. Very well balanced, so much so the high IBU are kept in check. The malts really stand out and the hops are just ever present. Finish is a bit dry with resin, but overall a great beer.

Can. Pours a beautiful reddish copper color. Nice big fluffy off white head with great lacing. Assertive piney hop & malt aromas. Taste is piney hops, grapefruit pith and just enough caramel malt to round it out. Full bodied with a dry bitter finish. Nice!

Can. Hazy reddish amber liquid with small to medium off-white head. Aroma of citrus, pine, tangerine, caramel, lemon peel, mango, biscuit and light grain. Taste is dry and medium to high bitter with notes of grapefruit, tangerine and bread. Medium bodied with medium to high carbonation. Quite nice, not very fresh sadly though.
